September 5, 2026
New York, New York, USA
Press Conference
F. CERUNDOLO/T. Fritz
3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Congratulations. Magnificent comeback. Your thoughts?
FRANCISCO CERUNDOLO: I'm super happy, to be honest. Playing my first match on Ashe, being down two sets to three -- to zero playing against Taylor, a top-10 guy, made final here. He always performed really good here. So I mean, he was playing an amazing tennis.
Yeah, being able to come back from that match is fantastic for me. I'm super proud of myself, and I think I played really good tennis in the fourth and the fifth set.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. Congratulations on the win. I just wanted to know, six or seven players from the top 12, 13 are out. Do you see this as one of the most open Grand Slam tournaments that there has been in recent memory?
FRANCISCO CERUNDOLO: Well, I mean, that shows you how even is the circuit right now, I mean, how tight every match it is, how difficult it is to win matches, because anything can happen right now.
A lot of players are playing good. I mean, the level, it's super, yeah, tight and since, I don't know, the second player in the world, third, fourth, until, I don't know, 80. Yeah, it's open to everyone. Everyone can win.
Of course, the top guys are the ones that are always favorite, and they always made to the last rounds, but I mean, then, yeah, it's open for anyone.
So, I mean, it's good for me, good for other players that we can beat these top guys, and that shows you that the level is, yeah, super close.
