September 5, 2026

Flavio Cobolli

New York, New York, USA

Press Conference

A. BLOCKX/F. Cobolli

6-7, 6-3, 6-0, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Flavio, not the result you wanted today. Your thoughts?

FLAVIO COBOLLI: The first feeling on my mind is that I'm really sad about the performance. I mean, I think that I play with an amazing player. We still didn't understand the level that Alexander has.

So he's a great guy, and he's unbelievable player. It's really tough to play against him, and today I think my energy was a little bit lower than the other days. I feel a little bit more tight and maybe more tired.

At the end, I play with a great player, with maybe not the energy that the match deserved. At the end, this is the result.

I think I'm going to go home, and I'm going take some day off to recover a bit my mental health and my shape and then come back very soon on court, and I go to Laver Cup that we really want to take Europe trophy back.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. You mentioned just having the low energy. I saw, you know, when you were in Cincinnati, you had those M&Ms that you brought out. Today you had the Coke. Did that help at all? I guess is this just what you need to do sometimes?

FLAVIO COBOLLI: I should take Red Bull. Coke doesn't work, so next time Red Bull. But, yeah, maybe next time I am going take the Red Bull, so...

Q. What do you attribute the lack of energy to?

FLAVIO COBOLLI: Maybe because I played a lot. I mean, here it's really tough to play. Heat is very -- today was hot, and the court is very loud, so my focus wasn't really on the match maybe.

But I don't know why. That's the thing that I have to talk with the team, also. Maybe I was a little bit more nervous also with the team.

But tennis is like this. You cannot go in the court and feeling always 100%. Today was like this, and I have to take it.

Q. You mentioned the noise. You usually are good to play -- you like the crowds, but this year some people have complained about the level of noise and how the crowds are behaving. Is it something that's disturbing to you? Do you think it's a bit much?

FLAVIO COBOLLI: I said the first day, we always play with the silence. We always used to play with nobody moves, nobody talk, with a great atmosphere.

Here it's really different. We have a great atmosphere, but it's very, very loud. For us, is very tough to play.

Maybe we have to play like this for more weeks, because if you come here and there is different rule, it's very tough for us. That's not because -- I mean, I didn't loss because of the noise, of course.

Q. It looked like at the end of the match like you exchanged some kind words or there was some exchange at the net with your opponent. I was just wondering what you might have said to him.

FLAVIO COBOLLI: He changed what?

Q. You said something at the end of the match when you went to the net. It looked like you were saying something to your opponent.

FLAVIO COBOLLI: Yeah, you want to know what I said to him?

Q. If it's not too personal.

FLAVIO COBOLLI: I just says, I love you, you deserve it, and I will cheer for you for the next round. I mean, this is not maybe Francisco want to know, because I didn't know that he plays with him. But I said before Alex is very good guy also outside the court, so nothing.

He deserve to win, and he won. He's a good guy, and I wish him good luck for the rest of the tournament.
