Sun Xinran

New York, New York, USA

Press Conference

S. XINRAN/A. Pushkareva

6-4, 4-6, 6-0

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations. If you would, your thoughts on your victory today?

SUN XINRAN: It was a pretty tough match, and I mean, I lost second set, and after, it's really hard to came back to the third set. I just want to focus on the point and don't want to think about what happened before that, yeah.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. I don't know if you're familiar with the American expression "third time's the charm," but today certainly was for you. I know you said you didn't put a lot of pressure on yourself, but now that you've done it, can you talk about the feeling of finally breaking through here?

SUN XINRAN: Yeah, it was really big pressure, because you know I have been final third time, and I lost first two time, but I think it's really so big experience.

Too I prepare for the third time, and first I want to sleep well, because last two time I was so nervous, so this time I want to just focus more on my tactic and don't think about the result, so I think this is really important for me.

Q. Are you feeling more relief, or is it more joy when you won?

SUN XINRAN: I feel like more relaxed. Also enjoy, yes, because you know, only two player can going to the final, and I just want to enjoy and just focus on the match, yeah.

Q. You've had a tremendous year so far. I know you're going to play the Junior Finals, right, in China. Will that be the end of junior tennis for you?

SUN XINRAN: Of course, I will go there, for sure, because you know, it's so special tournament and it's in China, so I'm just so happy to go there, and I'm so excited.

We will see. Maybe has some good result there.

Q. But you're not expecting to play any more juniors after that? Will you transition to pro tennis, or...

SUN XINRAN: I think probably yes, because I want to more focus on the pro, and maybe I will play the Grand Slam, and we will see on the future, yeah.

Q. What was different today in the third set? I know you took a break. You left the court after the second set again. You came out really great in the third set and really took it to her. What were you telling yourself there in the set break, and how did you dominate the third set like that?

SUN XINRAN: Because, you know, I have toilet break, and I was thinking that moment, because in the second set I think I played so soft, and I think on third set I need change something.

So I tried to play more aggressive, and I see this really work, so I just want to use my tactic. It's really working.

Q. How will you celebrate this, and is this your first time in New York?

SUN XINRAN: No, this my second time. Last year I was went here in the third round. I think probably I just go to eat something what I like.

This is just first step, and I don't want to be, like, Oh, oh, my God, this is so -- how I say -- so important. I think I just want to enjoy today, and tomorrow we need start to working, and next week also I need go back to the court and focus on the next tournament, yeah.

Q. Are you going back to Serbia?

SUN XINRAN: Yes. Yes, I will go back and practice.

Q. Now that it was your third Grand Slam final, but obviously the atmosphere in New York is a little bit different. How are you able to manage that? You weren't playing an American today like you did the last couple of rounds, but how did it feel, I guess, to play a US Open final in the loud and --

SUN XINRAN: Of course here have so many people, and they supported me, and I really like here. It's so special tournament in New York. I just so happy, and I want to come back here next year, and maybe in the future I maybe can play professional final here.

It's so special for me, and I'm just so happy, yeah.

Q. Can you tell us what the Chinese fans were chanting at you? They were chanting something the whole match. Can you translate that for us?

SUN XINRAN: Yeah, they were saying my name and saying, Come on, come on, you can do it. I hear some guy said some tactic for me. Yeah, it really works (smiling). I was here a few times, but --

Q. Did you listen to him?

SUN XINRAN: Yes, little bit. Yeah, of course, I can try. Yeah, they told me to focus, and I think it's really work.

I'm just so happy they gave me a lot of energy, and I really love them, and I hope they can support me in the future also.

Q. So fans should keep yelling advice to you?

SUN XINRAN: Yeah.
