Team Europe
TV Interview
Q. Carlota you officially put the Solheim Cup back in European hands. What does that mean to you?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: Yeah, I'm so happy. I think we had a great team all week. Very happy for Anna. The rookies, I think it's been one of the best teams that we've had in the last few years. Everyone just a unit, a team. That's what Europe is about. And we had a great time. I think some great matches, lots of birdies. Yeah, very happy to do it for Anna.
Q. Did you think that putt was going to go in there from long range? I thought that was going to be another Carlota moment.
CARLOTA CIGANDA: That was close. I don't know what happens at Solheim Cup, but I make a lot of putts. I need to take this mentality into the regular tournaments.
Q. It's been a great battle between you and Kupcho at moments this week. Was there a little extra motivation today for you?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: I mean, Kupcho, she's a fighter. I've played with her many times. I said yesterday, it was unbelievable. I know I celebrated and I probably pissed off all the Americans, but that's just how I am. I can't help it. But at the same time, I told her like, Great match, great last two holes. And, yeah, today I was really motivated to beat her because I knew it was going to be important and, yes, I did really well and really happy.
Q. Was that the reason for the fast start?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: Yeah, I mean, I was, like, just don't give her anything because I know if I can get a couple up at the beginning, it's going to be tough for her to fight back. And we were 2-up, but I think that birdie on 13 from the bunker, it was big and, yeah, very, very happy.
Q. Anna Nordqvist, obviously, this is going to mean a tremendous amount to her. She announced that she was going to retire from competition prior to this. Can you sum up what she has meant to the game and the Solheim Cup, especially this week?
CARLOTA CIGANDA: Yeah, she's a good friend. I've known Anna for more than 20 years. We played lots of amateur golf, professional, lots of Solheim Cups, and I think she's one of the most competitive players that I know. I think she was very prepared, very organized. She had everything in her mind. She had a game plan. And I'm so happy that everything worked out and I couldn't be happier for her.
