Preinterview Interview

Q. What have you been up to in the last couple of weeks? I mean, are you ready to go?

JON RAHM: I've been a dad basically. Yeah, I got a very pregnant wife at home who is feeling this pregnancy. Unfortunately, she was a bit under the weather, so luckily I was home and I could step in and play dad. So it hasn't left a lot of room for golf, but at this stage of the year, having a little bit of time off and actually dealing with reality and real life, it's very nice and needed, and I was very happy to be able to be home and just take care of my kids.

Q. What does it mean coming back to an event that means so much to you?

JON RAHM: It's very special. It's very special. Every time I've come it Ireland I've enjoyed the week thoroughly. Whether it's been an Open, an Irish Open, I've been treated so well. Obviously golf has also been really, really good on my side. I don't know why, I can't pinpoint it, but we always say some special weeks are special, and for me coming to Ireland just feels unique and it quickly became one of my favorite golf and tournament destinations and stays that way and it only gets better.

Q. You've even experienced some of the Irish weather briefly yesterday.

JON RAHM: Yeah, I always have. It's not a surprise at this point. I've been playing links golf for a long time and I know what to expect. But we have this sunshine, that's the unusual part. What we've seen this year in the islands of sun and no rain, that's the unusual. The wind and rain is just kind of how it is.

Q. You experienced the course a little bit yesterday. How did you find it and what have you heard about it?

JON RAHM: Well, I played three holes and got rained out. And then attempted to play again and got rained out again. So I did experience an Irish day. From what I saw it's in fantastic shape. All I've heard is how great a golf course it is, how great of a design it is, and how fun. Tyrrell told me a few weeks ago that he had came and -- he usually comes to Ireland on a golf tour, and he played it just with his mates and he even was giving it high praise. And if you know Tyrrell, him giving anything a high praise means that it's really, really good. So I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the golf course and experiencing the week.

Q. Equipment changes, anything going on this week?

JON RAHM: No, I'm not a man to change clubs very often. The only change I usually have is 5-wood or 2-iron depending on the week. Obviously this one will be more like a 2-iron week, but I still need to play and see how the golf course plays. But I don't usually -- I don't like to tinker too much. Usually what I start the year with it stays that way and very few times have I changed in the middle of the year.

Q. This is your 10th year as pro now. Can you imagine the journey you've been on over the last 10 years? Can you have dreamt it?

JON RAHM: It makes me feel old. I'm not old. I don't feel old. But at the same time that statement just makes me feel old. Yeah, I've accomplished a lot. I'm very happy with what I've done so far. Obviously as a competitor there's always times where I think I should have done more, right? We all want to win more. But I've been very, very lucky to play this game at a really high level, and I hope the next decade I can keep doing it.
