U.S. WOMEN'S MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

September 2, 2026

Catherine McEvoy

West Orange, New Jersey, USA

Montclair Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All righty, Catherine, being on making it to the championship match of the Women's Mid. How are you feeling right now?

CATHERINE McEVOY: Definitely overwhelmed with excitement. It's been a long two days. Today 36 and yesterday 36 and having to finish a few holes this morning on my round from yesterday, so just overwhelmed but really excited.

Q. Can you talk about how you're feeling physically and mentally after, you know, playing 36 today?

CATHERINE McEVOY: Yeah, I'm definitely tired but I've been trying to get as much resting as possible each night. But mentally knew I needed to stay strong in order to compete out there with everybody else, so I've just been trying to take it one hole at a time.

Q. You got off to a quick, 3-up, saw the lead kind of go away, and then it was back and forth all the way through.

CATHERINE McEVOY: Uh-huh.

Q. What did it take to close out the match today?

CATHERINE McEVOY: Got off to a really good start. Had a lot of momentum which was helpful. And then just tried to stay consistent throughout the round.

Back nine, you know being she hung in there really well. We got back to even at one point with only a few holes left to play.

But knew I needed to just focus on my game and take it one shot at a time.

Q. Was there one part of your game you feel like was working more than the others that was maybe saving you out there on a few holes?

CATHERINE McEVOY: I would say my putting, especially on the front nine, was definitely strong. Started to go a little bit on the back, but I was able to hold it together.

But this whole week I feel like I've putted really well which is obviously a big part of this course.

Q. Going into the last hole you have a 1-up lead. What's going through your mind? What are your emotions? What are you feeling as you're there trying to close it out?

CATHERINE McEVOY: Same thing: Just trying to stay present, one shot at a time, not trying to get too far a had of myself or think ahead; just focus on what's in front of me, which is hitting the green and putting the ball on the green in a good spot.

Q. Making it to the championship match, you're automatically exempt into the next two Women's Amateurs, and if you win tomorrow, that means you're exempt into the U.S. Open. What would those things mean to you if they were all to happen?

CATHERINE McEVOY: Yeah, I mean, I couldn't even put it into words right now. That would be awesome and a phenomenal opportunity for my golf career.

But just know there is a lot of work to do before I get there tomorrow, so just trying to stay present.

Q. And then last question: Who do you have on the bag for and you who is here supporting you this week?

CATHERINE McEVOY: Yeah, so I have my dad on the bag. He's never been on the bag before, so we gave it a whirl this week. But, yeah, we've worked really well together.

And then my mom has been out here and then a few friends with the Metropolitan Golf Association were able to come out and support me today, which meant a lot.

Q. Does having your dad on the bag help you emotionally? Is it something that's been helpful?

CATHERINE McEVOY: I don't think that we end up talking all that much.

Q. Okay.

CATHERINE McEVOY: Or it makes that big of a difference. But having him as a backbone has definitely been really nice.
