Q. Fine play, and it equals the course record of 63. How good did that final birdie on 18 feel?

JOE DEAN: Yeah, I can't say I felt it right off the putt, but yeah, it's an amazing day. Obviously it's not been the most conventional last couple of days, but yeah, to finish it off like that, unbelievable.

Q. When you were walking up to record it, some of the other players were coming up how on earth did he make that score in this wind? They want to know, so tell us how you did it.

JOE DEAN: By holing a lot of putts. It's really strange because I played quite well the first day, and then the last two days has been a real struggle with the putter. The putter has been so cold.

Came back on the putting green yesterday, I think maybe or something, and just found out that I was sending the putt a little bit short. Yeah, went out there today and didn't really miss much.

Q. That's all it was?

JOE DEAN: I think so. Obviously you've got to get on the green to begin with, but yeah, it's mainly the putter I think today.

Q. How about Emily, your new wife on the bag. You got married just after The Open. She's carrying the clubs for you today. How important was she to keep you focused, to keep you enjoying the round?

JOE DEAN: Yeah, absolutely. Again, the last couple of days have been a real struggle, and it's not fun for either of us. Today made up for a lot of bad days and a lot of stress and a lot of anxiety.

That should be enough to seal my card now for next year. Also, obviously there's guys out there, but we'll see how it pans out. Yeah, really, really over the moon, though, and happy that she's happy.

Q. And with a win or not, it's a weight lifted from your shoulders and a breakthrough round.

JOE DEAN: Absolutely. My goal today was to basically try and shoot under par as well as possible. I'll be honest, winning weren't anywhere in my thoughts, but just trying to get inside the top 15 to just get enough points to keep me safe for next year.

Yeah, that's the thought. Again, it's out of my hands now, and I've done all I can do.

Q. You've got a bit of nerves right now. What are you going to do to pass the time?

JOE DEAN: I'll probably go in the players lounge and have a bottle of Coke.
