Q. 70 for your second round. It's my job to do the in-round interviews, and I was waiting for you at the tee on the 8th, and you didn't look happy. I thought, you know what, I'm going to let Matt go and let him get on with his job. Sure enough, you switched everything around on that back nine. What was it that went through your mind that changed how you were playing?

MATT WALLACE: A little bit of the weather. I played the 9th unbelievably well, hitting a 4-iron into a tough, tough pin position. Hard hole anyway, thumping into a 4-iron, went 180 and just managed to get into the bunker.

The conditions were some of the hardest stuff I've played in England, those three holes, but kind of like shimmed it off the tee on 8. I was quite happy it got up there that far. So maybe you saw me a little bit frowning and down.

I was a little bit like, man, this is difficult. I don't see how I'm going to make any birdies. Then the weather kind of turned a little bit and the rain stopped, and then I just hit it really great on the back nine and gave myself some chances. A bit of momentum, and that's how it can change.

Q. Talk us through that eagle on the 17. There was a mini driver off the deck?

MATT WALLACE: Two mini drivers, actually back-to-back on 15 and on 17. In these conditions, I think you need a bit of loft, and mini driver's got that bit of loft but still a bit of pump to it.

The 17th hole, you need a big slice around the corner, and if you don't slice it, you're through the fairway. I thought the best way to do it is try and make a birdie on that hole is hit mini. It was in perfect position, and hit another one to that right side and a lovely putt.

Q. How proud are you of the way you managed yourself?

MATT WALLACE: Very proud, very proud. You saw me, I was a little bit down, but I wasn't angry, and I was a little bit upset in terms of internally. I wasn't showing it much, which was nice. I've been working on that.

But to be able to shift it and lighten things up and just think, okay, we just got that side of the draw. It happens in golf. And allowed myself to free up a little bit in that back nine when the weather turned to somewhat decent, compared to the front nine. I was very happy to play the way I had been doing yesterday as well.

Q. Game and brain coming together?

MATT WALLACE: Very much so. Now we fight for hopefully 36 holes.
