Anna Nordqvist

Boston, Massachusetts, USA

TPC Boston

Quick Quotes

Q. All right here with an Anna Nordqvist. Hey, lots of birdies on the card today. How cool was it to bounce back and play so well today?

ANNA NORDQVIST: Yeah, I mean, I couldn't really sleep last night because it was so much emotions running through my head. It was really tough yesterday afternoon with those gusty winds.

Felt like I played really well and just didn't really seem to get anything going. Didn't really hole any putts. So today I think I hit 14 fairways and 16 greens, so, yeah, felt really good.

I mean, just like these are the moments like I'm going to miss. Like hitting good golf shots, being in the flow. But I'm really proud of myself today.

Q. I know you and Lydia are pretty close. Got to share the walk with her the last couple days. How cool is it to be with her, and with Paul as well?

ANNA NORDQVIST: Yeah, I mean, Lydia, like I've been fortunate enough to play in her era and she's seen me for most of my career, so it was very special to have the opportunity to play with her the last to two days.

Q. I know you're a gritty as ever player. Just proved it again today. That kind of legacy is one that I know we'll all remember. How good did it feel to remind everybody, hey, this is what I have to bring to the table?

ANNA NORDQVIST: Yeah, I mean, Grant Boone came up to me on the putting green this morning and we had a little bit of a chat. I said, look, I refuse to finish after two days, so I grinded hard and hit a lot of good shots.

Obviously unfortunate to finish with the double on the last, but it was such a downhill lie that with my wedge on the last should've probably been less. Having double yesterday I was going to go for the birdie, so it is what it is.

But overall I'm really proud.

Q. What was your mindset heading into today? Do you feel like you played more free?

ANNA NORDQVIST: I couldn't really sleep last night. I think I woke up at 2:00 and it was just like a lot of emotions. I guess I've always wanted to finish on a high. Playing good yesterday, just being in those really gusty winds, being hard to score, get close to the holes, I feel like it was just one of those days; like really determined to try to do everything I can to be able to play the weekend, too.

Q. Yeah. I was going to ask, did you come into today thinking, all right, there is no way I'm not miss the cut?

ANNA NORDQVIST: Yeah, I mean, I guess I'm known for being a grinder, and there is those days. I mean, I didn't really miss many shots today. Three-putted from like just off the green on six and then like I think that kind of like triggered me to stay aggressive because I hit it good. Just didn't really make any birdies.

Yeah, overall, like really pleased with the round and hit all the shots that I needed out there.

Q. A lot of people have been saying how wonderful that you kept your retirement to yourself. So many big athletes talk about it for a year and have this whole farewell tour. Are you feeling that now?

ANNA NORDQVIST: Yeah, I mean, I'm glad I did it that way just because it's a Solheim Cup year and it's -- every question is about everyone else but me, so I feel like this was something that me and my team could keep between the few of us.

I had shared it with a few others and I respect really the fact they didn't share it with the world. Probably a shock to a few.

Probably going to spend the afternoon replying to a lot of messages. I really haven't got to it yet because it's so many thoughtful messages, so I want to make sure I got the time to sit down and reply just as thoughtful back, because it really means the world to me.

Q. Last thing: Going into the weekend how are you feeling? How are you preparing?

ANNA NORDQVIST: I feel really good. Been hitting the ball really well. Today obviously a couple putts dropped, but, yeah, really pleased with my game. Really have nothing to lose, and I'm excited to enjoy my last weekend.

Q. How do you balance the emotions and maybe expectations that you feel for going into this event with it being your final event?

ANNA NORDQVIST: Yeah, I mean, just been such a crazy last couple weeks, you know, every since the AIG Women's Open and having the Solheim Cup announcements and media days and going back to Sweden for the first time in a year. It's just basically been nonstop.

I think it hit me really hard when it took me, what, 22 hours to get here. I was supposed to land at 10:00 a.m. in the morning and didn't get to my airbnb until 9:00 p.m.

It was just such a hard day. I missed my retirement dinner and was able to make up for it by missing a meeting. Yeah, I feel like things just hadn't really stopped. I think I was glad I had an afternoon tee time yesterday so I could get some rest.

I think emotionally probably had like a little bit of adrenaline out there today because some of my drives were really far.

Q. Yeah.

ANNA NORDQVIST: Yeah, overall, like I think it's just such a bittersweet feeling. Like I love playing golf and I love this game, so I'm going to try to make the best out of this weekend.

Q. Were you telling yourself anything out there as you were walking the fairways? We you trying to keep yourself calm, keep yourself up? What was kind of going through your mind?

ANNA NORDQVIST: No, I mean, the first couple holes I got off to a great start. Couple birdie opportunities. Made a putt on two and then from nowhere I had a 9-iron in on six, perfect position, and hit it just on the fringe and three-putted.

So I think from there on it was like, all right, at least if I'm going miss it I need to be aggressive.

Then I think I birdied three of the next four holes with really good shots, so just really proud of myself for how I was able to keep my head into it and not let the emotions get the best out of me.
