FM CHAMPIONSHIP

August 27, 2026

Lauren Coughlin

Boston, Massachusetts, USA

TPC Boston

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, here with Lauren Coughlin after the first round the 2026 FM Championship. Lauren, put together a solid round there. Seems like this afternoon is a bit tougher than what we say this morning. What did you see out there on the course?

LAUREN COUGHLIN: Yeah, it was really windy, especially my first like two thirds of the round. Like really good amount of wind out there. Course is firmed up a good bit too just from like earlier in the week. Some pretty tough pins, too.

But, yeah, I played really well. Struck it really, really well. Missed a few putts, but can't really complain.

Q. We heard this morning some people were able to go pin seeking and hit the number a little bit more. Do you feel like that or a little different?

LAUREN COUGHLIN: No, definitely firmed up there on the greens. I was getting a lot more roll in the fairways than I did like Monday, Tuesday.

But, yeah, overall it was more just the wind I think and the combination of that and the pin placements.

Q. And then Solheim Cup team officially announced. Got all 12 on Monday. Just what was this team dinner like an Monday?

LAUREN COUGHLIN: Yeah, it was a lot of fun. Really good food, good company. I think all of us are just ready to get over there and get playing.

Q. What's it like kind of not being a rookie this time? How is it going into Europe this time for you?

LAUREN COUGHLIN: Yeah, it will be my first away one, so I kind of feel like I got a little bit of things that I've asked some questions about just with people who have been over there.

Overall, just really looking forward to being around everybody and having a lot of fun.

Q. Lastly, too, what has it been like to be under Angela and see her leadership?

LAUREN COUGHLIN: Yeah, Angela is great. She's really -- I feel like we're similar in that we're both super tough and gritty.

But, no, she's been great. Definitely a little bit different than Stacy, but good in her own way.

Q. When you go out at 12:54, are you aware there is several really low rounds posted, like an eight, seven, seven, and does that affect your approach going into your first round?

LAUREN COUGHLIN: I wouldn't say -- I mean, it's nice to just know, but out here, especially with just how wet it's been in the mornings, I feel like it's kind of something that I would know, that it might play a touch easier just in the mornings than it would in the afternoon just given how the course is so dewy and wet in the morning. You can be a lot more aggressive and stuff.

So I kind of always look just to kind of see, just to get a feel for how it's playing. Once I got out here and saw how windy it was I knew it was going to be playing a lot more difficult this afternoon. I didn't take too much stock in what the other people were doing. I was just trying to go play as best as I could.

Q. Your 17th, that was a lag, sort of a first putt. So what happened on that one?

LAUREN COUGHLIN: Yeah, I missed about a five-footer for par. I mean, I had -- I thinned my shot so I was on the very front of the green. I had like a 75-footer. So I hit a pretty good first putt but just didn't hit a really good second putt, so unfortunate.

But I didn't have to chip at all today, so that was nice.

Q. You birdied the final hole to get to 4-under. How do you ride that momentum going into tomorrow?

LAUREN COUGHLIN: Yeah, I'm just going try to go hit a few putts just to kind of -- like I said, I missed a few five-footers today, so just going to go hit a few and get some food and rest as much as I can here for the quick turnaround.

Try to just keep it going for tomorrow.
