Q. Collin, obviously a really strong day out there on the greens. Any key to what you're doing with the putter?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: No, I've been doing the same stuff. Memphis threw me for a loop because I feel like I've been putting really well all year. I think the newness of two weeks ago at Southwind, the greens just hadn't settled, and I was having a hard time reading the green.

Out here these greens are fast. It's probably the fastest I've seen them over the past few years, but I saw them really well today. That was the key Tuesday, Wednesday of practice, so it was nice to see that happen on the course.

Q. This is a place where you've had some success in the past. What is it about East Lake that fits well for your game?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: I think you find momentum. There's enough holes where you have short irons, mid-irons, and then into some of these greens. Even though they're fast and can play firm even without the rain, you're landing them into the grain spots. When it's into the grain, they stop that much quicker. I felt if I put myself on the green today I was going to make some putts, and that was the case.

Q. Second year with this format. What's your approach entering the cliche you can't win on Thursday but you can lose it. This is certainly a different setup where you want to put yourself in a strong position.

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah. For the regular season, I wish I had starting strokes. Some years I don't. I think you treat it like any other tournament. You're not playing more aggressive just because you only have four rounds to end the season. You're not going to do anything stupid.

I'd say the game plan is pretty solidified over the last few years. Nothing has really changed. Even with a couple of the changes out here, you know where to take advantage of some of these holes, and frankly you have to birdie the par-5s. You have to take advantage of 6 and 18 and see where you could steal a few out there as well.
