Q. Your third year in a row at this event. How much do you enjoy coming back and playing on home soil?

LUKE DONALD: There's nothing like playing in front of English crowds and British crowds. To come here, a course that's pretty iconic in terms of what it represents to some past Ryder Cups is kind of fun. You know, obviously kicking off Ryder Cup again. Points are starting. There's an added element, as well. I'm excited to be here and dust off the clubs a little bit and see how I do.

Q. You touched on it but how special is it playing at The Belfry with all the history that this course has?

LUKE DONALD: It has some very iconic holes. Obviously 10, 18, the plagues. I was looking on Monday when I played the back nine, the Christy O'Connor plague and what that meant for European golf. That was the start of a really good sort of runs for Team Europe. There's so many amazing stories when it comes to Ryder Cups, and a lot of them have happened here.

Q. As you mentioned, this week marks the start of Ryder Cup qualification. How much are you looking forward to watching the European talent over the next year?

LUKE DONALD: Yeah, here we go again. Obviously been in this place before but excited to get it kicked off again. I think next year will be sooner rather than later, so excited to see. I always feel like when the qualification starts, it's sort of a reset for some of these players. Their goals change and suddenly they have an opportunity to earn Ryder Cup points, and that's a pretty motivating thing for a lot of guys and I'll be looking forward to watching.

Q. As captain, how important do you think it is to be at these events and be around the players and getting to know them better?

LUKE DONALD: Obviously this is my third crack, so I know a lot of the players. You are always going to have new talent coming up, and it's important to be around them and show some interest and keep them up-to-date in terms of how I see them playing. If they are playing some really good golf, and I think they have a chance, then it helps to be around them rather than just sending a text message. I think it's much more personal to be chatting with them, playing with them, and getting to know them. That's how you build a bit of trust.
