Quick Quotes
Q. All right, here with Michelle after her final round at the CPKC Women's Open. Michelle, just walk us through that front nine there. 29; can you just talk about what was going through your head during that and just all the support you've been getting out here all week?
MICHELLE XING: To be honest, I wasn't really thinking about it. Like I hit a good shot onto one. I had a straightforward putt for birdie, and like I was kind of just like hitting it well and a lot of putts were falling, so I wasn't really keeping track of it, though.
The support has been great. I heard people like calling my name today and it was -- it like made me feel really like welcome.
Yeah, it was great.
Q. How cool is it just like you said, they're calling your name out here, all the fan support, and the leaders haven't even gone off yet. Just the support of the community and Canada in general, not just for the leaders, but everyone who represents Canada; seems like they're there to support you.
MICHELLE XING: I feel like with this being the only women's event in Canada, as soon as the weekend hits or not even the weekend, just like when this event comes around everybody is just out here supporting all the Canadian players.
They're just so happy to see everyone, so it's great.
Q. And then I've heard you're committed to UCLA. Can you talk about heading into that what you're most looking forward to and just going forward with your career.
MICHELLE XING: I'm definitely looking forward to the weather. I think it's going to be a lot nicer than Toronto.
But I think just playing college golf, like getting that experience, being around my teammates, playing a lot of good golf courses, like I'm really looking forward to that.
Q. Michelle, what is next for you? Is it going to school? Do you have any other tournaments coming up? What's next for you in golf?
MICHELLE XING: I fly tomorrow to LA, yeah. I'm going school right away. And then we have qualifying and hopefully my first tournament will be soon, yeah.
Q. You, Clairey, Aphrodite, and Anna, all made the cut here. You're all under the age of -- you're 18 or under. I think you just turned 18 last month. What's going on with this age group? What's sort of alchemy is happening here?
MICHELLE XING: I think we just have a really good like junior program. We have great support from the coaches. We have great coaches. And then like having that support, having the coaches around and practicing hard, I think it creates some good results.
And then I think just having like the people from this event, just the crowd cheering you on extra makes it a little more fun; gives you more encouragement to play well.
Q. I was going to say, what's the juice like when you have a big gallery following you around?
MICHELLE XING: It's very cool. Very, very cool. I was telling my dad, I was like, like last night I was telling him I was so excited for today because I just knew there were going to be a lot of people around.
It's such a unique experience for me because obviously like, you know, I don't get to play these tournaments too often, so when it does happen, it's incredible.
Q. Get a sense of maybe what Brooke deals with all the time and what's in store for you in the future?
MICHELLE XING: Yeah, hopefully. Hopefully. But this is super cool. Like I totally see myself doing this in the future, so I'm just going to work as hard as I can and hopefully I can do that one day.
Q. So it was the old 29/39.
MICHELLE XING: Oh, my gosh. I know. I was like please break 40. (Laughter.)
Q. Happens to me all the time only it's 39/50 is what happens. What happened on the back?
MICHELLE XING: I just wasn't hitting the ball as well. Like I got it into the rough a couple times off the tee and obviously it's just so difficult to get it out. It's incredibly unpredictable. Like I hit good shots out of the rough, but it's just really hard to get it to the green.
When you're in the greenside rough, still super thick. But, yeah, just wasn't hitting it as well. I was making a decent amount of putts, just not as much as on the front nine. When you constantly have like 15 feet for par it's hard to make a lot of them.
But, yeah. (Laughter.)
Q. Michelle, obviously a fun four days for you. Was there anything different for you coming into this week versus your last Canadian Opens?
MICHELLE XING: I think the only thing that was different was that I felt a little bit less nervous because I had been in this environment before. Although I have to admit this morning I was a little bit nervous just because it was Sunday and there were even more people.
But like other than that, not really.
Q. How would you rate your ability to play well under pressure with nerves?
MICHELLE XING: I think I'm okay. Like maybe a seven. I think there were -- I was definitely a little bit nervous, but like I was still hitting decent shots.
But, yeah, seven.
Q. 29 is pretty good.
MICHELLE XING: (Laughter.)
Q. When you're nervous. You ever had one of those before?
MICHELLE XING: No, I didn't even realize. I didn't even realize until I saw on the screen, because you know how it shows your scorecard? I didn't realize until my photo popped up with my scorecard and I was like, oh.
Q. Who shot 29.
MICHELLE XING: Then I told my dad, I was like, that's kind of cool. Yeah.
