Quick Quotes

Q. Wyndham is kind of running away with this now. But if he wasn't there you would be just a couple off the lead. So how does the game feel?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Fine. You know, Mark and I have been kind of, we were trying to win strokes gained grind. I'm still just kind of day in, day out. Some days I feel good, some days I don't. Just have to kind of play with what I have. It's frustrating because it all kinds of bleeds down and the driver hasn't been as good this week, but finding a way. Tomorrow just go out and shoot something really, really low and if not just kind of get any momentum heading into next week and that would kind of be I would say a successful week.

Q. How do you explain, I mean, if we didn't know you were injured, you're still having a very good season. How do you explain still being able to play well?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: I think it's always funny, everyone always talks about, says, Beware of the injured golfer. Beware of the sick golfer. It makes you really focus on the simple things. Trust me, I go down a lot of rabbit holes in this game. We all do. But when I've got one shot to work with, it takes away some of the shots that I want to be able to feed into other pins. But at the same time sometimes it makes me play a little more center greens, just a little more smart and think about the misses and think about where I need to be.

Q. Are you frustrated that it's still happening?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: A little bit, but it's the body and you can't push it. I've been very cautious of making sure I don't do too much. I'm doing the right stuff when I'm at home, and it's hard because you might make a little progress at home and then come out here and things tense up. But it's nice. I got three weeks, sometimes it helps me to kind of get the weeks going, to really see how everything's feeling. It is what it is. It's frustrating, but at the same time, like, I got to figure it out.

Q. What's significantly better this week than last week?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Last week I just, I couldn't read a putt to save my life. I was playing out of the rough as well, but, man. The putting's felt pretty good I would say over the last few months. And, I mean, if you told me the putt was dead straight and you had bumpers on the side I wouldn't even believe you. So it just kind of bled into the stroke. It was nice, I was very positive kind of going into this week, just knowing that different surface, different greens. I think last week the greens were kind of still, they're just growing in a little bit. It is what it is. I know that's what we're going to have next week, but I've putted good in previous years at East Lake, so hopefully can kind of just build off that.

Q. How do you explain the phenomenon of momentum, which is real, going into next week and the guy who misses the three cuts in a row and wins the next week. There's no momentum there, is there? How does that work?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: We all just believe in ourselves. I think when you're playing really well it's easy just to kind of pile that on to the next week and continue that, especially since the playoffs are three weeks in a row. But the guy that barely creeps in at 30, shoot, it's been a successful year. We all want to be there, and this year the format is anyone can win. You got to believe that you can do it in four days. No matter how much grinding you got to do, you're going to put it all in to see if you can pull it off.

Q. Do you like that? You do now.

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, I didn't mind, even when I started at even or 1-under, I didn't mind the starting strokes. I get it. People don't like it because it's too much going on, people don't know where to pay attention to. But I thought it rewarded a good regular season.

Q. And playoffs.

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Aside from -- yeah, and playoffs. Aside from just monetary reasons. It gave some purpose to having that. I don't hate it now because, you know, you don't want to start behind. But at the same time, like, it didn't hurt if you were 5-under par starting the week and had a little bump ahead of other guys if you played well.
