Quick Quotes
Q. I really thought it was important for you to play 18 well. I know it's disappointing to miss a 4-footer for a birdie on 17, but then you respond on the last. Tell me about your play on 18 and the missed putt on 17.
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it's nice to birdie the last any day, especially after letting one get away from you there on 17. I thought I played really well today. I gave myself some chances. I feel like my game's in a good spot and ready to go shoot a low one tomorrow.
Q. It was a little awkward on the inward nine. I thought you controlled your misses into the green, and your pace on the green was just tremendous, from just off the green on 12 and 14 and then 15.
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it's important when you do miss the fairway here to leave your golf ball in the right spot. I feel like I did a good job of that today and when I left myself those 30-, 40-footers, I kind of lagged them up there close. I think it's important out here, there's some really difficult holes, and if you can just make par and go on to the next, you can also get some opportunities because there are some gettable holes out here.
Q. It's been a few since you won. You are a two-time BMW winner. But so much on the line tomorrow, trying to win for the first time in four years, trying to make it to Atlanta, and Presidents Cup is still hanging out there for you. Is it just golf and at the end of the day you look up and see where you are in the FedExCup and Presidents Cup?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, that's exactly right. That's my mind frame every year, every tournament, I'm going to focus all my attention here this week tomorrow and whatever happens, yeah, that's what happens.
Q. Are you a leaderboard watcher? Does it ever affect the way you play on a Sunday?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I don't think. So, I mean, I'll see it, but I'm not hawking it or anything.
Q. You won't change something, be aggressive, not aggressive, something off the tee, nothing?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Only if it's, you know, the last couple holes or something like that, and you know exactly where you stand. But for the most part there's a game plan that I have for the golf course and I'll just go out about executing that game plan.
Q. You found decent amount of success around this part of the season before. I know when people get here, they're tired, it's been a long year. Anything you've learned about how you try to manage things to still be playing well right now?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think it's a long year. It's a marathon, not a sprint. I feel like I've done a good job pacing myself this year and pacing myself this last month or so, which has been a busy month. It's been really warm, so I took the day off on Monday, I had a light day. But, yeah, I like this tournament, and it's always nice to play tournaments that you've had success at before.
Q. What's pacing for you? What's pacing yourself?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Just, when it is really hot, making sure you get enough rest. Last week in Memphis was one of the hottest weeks I can remember. So being diligent about getting your rest and recovery I think is a big deal.
Q. What part of your game are you happiest with right now?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I would say my iron play. I've been playing some really nice golf and if I can get hot with the putter I can shoot a low one.
Q. When you get away from good iron play, how long does it take you to realize you're away from it and how long does it take to put it back?
PATRICK CANTLAY: That's a good question. I feel like it can come in stretches. When you're feeling comfortable with your golf swing and you're playing in good rhythm it's easy to hit a lot of good iron shots. When you get out of rhythm or the club feels like it's in a tough spot, then it's a little more difficult. Fortunately right now the club feels like it's in a good spot and I feel like I'm pretty dialed in with my numbers, especially inside 150.
Q. How long did it take to get in that good spot?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I've been working on it all year and I feel like it's not a destination, but it's trying to get it there slowly. You can't make changes all at once. So I've been working hard on my swing all year and I feel like it's paying off.
Q. Have you been to any great restaurants that you want to talk about this week?
PATRICK CANTLAY: This week I've been at a rental house, so we've been cooking in at the house every night.
