Quick Quotes
Q. All right, joining us after the second round of the CPKC Women's Open is Kelly. You Monday qualified into this event. Could you just talk about that first?
KELLY ZHANG: Yeah, it was a good round. My putter felt really good. It was at the Edmonton Petroleum Golf Club, and I wasn't really expecting to qualify because it's just my -- it was my second try and my first try did not go very well.
So I was just trying to like get more experience, but then putter saved me that day, so I qualified.
Q. You're only 14 years old. How does it feel to be 14 and teeing it up in an LPGA event, and not only that, but making the cut?
KELLY ZHANG: It feels so good because I played in the AJGA Mizuho Americas Open, too, and that was like my first like half LPGA I guess.
And after the rounds there I compared myself to the LPGA, and I saw like a lot of room for improvement. Like this time I'm happy to be able to compete against them for real this time, and I am very happy to make the cut.
Q. Playing in an event like this where not only are you an amateur and 14 and Monday qualified, do you just feel like you can go out and play free golf because there is no expectations on you?
KELLY ZHANG: I try to. I tried telling myself that. On the first hole yesterday I felt like -- my legs felt like shaken soda cans. Felt like I was about to explode.
But then after a couple holes I found -- I just tried to play like normal golf and it helped a lot.
Q. Like you mentioned, you're playing in the best players in the world. Is there anyone that you've grown up looking up to that you've seen this week and felt amazed by playing next them?
KELLY ZHANG: There is too many. There is too many. Like everywhere I look it's like names I've seen on TV and like people that I like look for their scores like when I'm home looking at the LPGA.
It's great to compete alongside them and like learn what they do and stuff like that.
Q. Obviously your week is not over. Like we said you're making the cut. But what do you think you're going to take away from this week?
KELLY ZHANG: The experience and like feeling like the golfing level doesn't get better than this, so like I'm really happy to be able to just say that I competed in an LPGA event. I'm excited to tell my friends at home about it.
