Quick Quotes
Q. Really solid day. Just take me through how it felt.
WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, felt great. Really drove it nicely. I hit some awesome iron shots throughout the day where a couple times I didn't really even have to putt. Took advantage on a couple par-3s. So that was really nice. Yeah, overall really good. I would like to make that 9 to 15 foot range. I hadn't made too many this week. But I'm really happy with my lag putts, short putts, everything.
Q. There's been a couple times where you either missed one cut or a couple cuts and then very quickly got it back before CJ Cup leading into the playoffs. Is there something that's allowed you to quickly flip the script after it hasn't been working?
WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, I know in Detroit -- well actually The Open Championship I just, God, things just didn't really go my way. I made some dumb mistakes, and next thing I look up and I'm 4-, 5-over and I'm like, what happened.
In Detroit I kind of threw my arm out practicing for that first pitch, so that was kind of stupid. But outside of that, you just go home and continue to work on what you're working on. The nice thing is I have a great kind of plan right now for my swing and putting and so when it gets off I know what to go back to. That makes it easy and able to bounce back quicker.
Q. I think it was yesterday around 10 or 11 you holed about a 17-, 18-footer for par. I can't think of any other stress you've been under over the last 36 holes. Does that sound about right?
WYNDHAM CLARK: It was on 10. Yeah, you know, it's been a nice really nice boring golf, which is kind of always the dream that you play, so it's been good. I said to everyone, if I continue to hit fairways, I think I can continue to do that with my play. Hopefully I keep that going.
Q. Does your play make this course look, not using the word "easy", but let's go with comfortable?
WYNDHAM CLARK: You know, it's a little unfair to Bellerive, just simply because of the time of year, it's so soft, it's hard to make the greens firm. Then, any time we get to play in Zoysia, we're all so good and able to control our distances and kind of do whatever we want with the golf ball. So those two things make it look, I guess like you said, easy, but it's not.
Q. I said comfortable?
WYNDHAM CLARK: You said comfortable. So yeah, make it look comfortable. It's not an easy course by any means. You see guys making bogeys left and right. It is challenging. It's a great golf course. I just think it's because of the soft conditions.
Q. This tournament means different things to different people. Where is it on your checkoff list?
WYNDHAM CLARK: I mean --
Q. Top 30 say?
WYNDHAM CLARK: Yeah, they're all really big. Obviously majors are the No. 1. And then any time you can win any tournament's big, but a Signature Event or a playoff event is massive. I've been close in this event a couple times, so it would be nice to pull through and get a W.
Q. What shots out of the fairway bunkers on 12, 14, 18, when you look back, how important were those to the overall round?
WYNDHAM CLARK: For me it's huge. I traditionally have struggled out of fairway bunkers. It's something I work really hard on. It helps my swing. But when I get in those and I pull off a shot, it's actually, those are the best shots of the day. Because mentally I go in there with a little bit of fear, unknown how I'm going to hit the shot. To pull 'em off and overcome that is great. So those are huge.
Q. Before the week started did you feel like you had done enough to earn a Presidents Cup spot?
WYNDHAM CLARK: I don't really know. I don't know. No, to be honest, because I thought I had to play really good to try to get into that top 6. And that's where I want to be. I don't want to leave it up to a captain's choice. So, yeah, I mean, I'm playing my hardest to try to get those last six spots.
Q. What was the training for the first pitch?
WYNDHAM CLARK: Well, I was, I didn't do anything beforehand. I show up and I'm like, Oh, gosh, I need to do a practice. And I didn't get anything. And then about 20 minutes later the pitching coach was like, Hey, do you want to go throw throw underneath and meet some of the guys? And I was like, Sure. So we threw probably 15 warmups and then I actually started throwing it kind of hard. And I was like, Oh, this feels really good. And it was stupid. I started throwing harder and harder. And then went out for the first pitch, kind of took a little bit off, and ten I woke up the next day and, oh my gosh, my arm was hurting.
Q. You slotted it though.
WYNDHAM CLARK: I did. I'm very proud of that pitch.
Q. Did they have a clock on it?
WYNDHAM CLARK: No. 80s. No, I'm just kidding. It was probably like 55 or something.
