THE MODERATOR: Please welcome to the interview area Barb Moxness. Barb, the second straight year you've shot your age in this championship. What was the key to your round today? What was the best part of your game?
BARB MOXNESS: I only really missed one shot today. I putted well on the front. I started on the back. Was a couple under on the front and then had too many long putts on the back and had three 3-putts -- or two 3-putts. That hurt a lot on the back, but I was real happy with how I played.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. When you come into this championship, what do you set as a goal? What are your expectations?
BARB MOXNESS: I try and keep it as simple as possible. I hit one shot at a time and see what happens. If I do that well, I'll probably be able to compete. If I don't do it well, I won't. So I just have to keep it in front of me and not get too far out here somewhere.
Q. Have you simplified your game more now than when you were a tour pro?
BARB MOXNESS: Much more.
Q. How so?
BARB MOXNESS: All I focus on right now is hitting the ball. I don't know what my swing looks like. I try and use the club and just hit the ball with the right angle the way the club was designed to be used, and that's all I do.
Q. Do you have a better understanding of your swing now than you did then?
BARB MOXNESS: Yes, I have a better understanding of how to use the golf club, and my mentor, AJ Bonar from San Diego, is the one that taught me that and made it just simple. So that's all I try and do.
Q. What has this championship meant to you at this stage in life?
BARB MOXNESS: Oh, my goodness. This is such a gift, you know, to be here and to be able to play at this level with these young ladies, who some of them could be my daughter (laughing). It is a gift, and I just appreciate it greatly.
Q. Is it kind of wild to you that you're the oldest player in the field?
BARB MOXNESS: Yeah. Yeah, and I keep saying to myself every year, Are you going to retire now? Then things happen, and I don't.
It's harder as I get older because it's harder to stay in shape, it's harder to stay stronger. I don't think mentally I'm quite as focused as I used to be, but I can still get out there and do it.
Q. So what keeps you motivated to put all the time and the practice in?
BARB MOXNESS: I love the game. I love the people that are out here. They're wonderful women. They're just so talented.
I really believe it's the call of my life from God, so I keep going. I keep asking him every year, Is it time to quit? And he goes, No, it's not time to quit yet. So I go, Okay, we'll just keep going (laughing).
