Quick Quotes
Q. Joining us after the first round of the CPKC Women's Open is Anna Huang. 65 today. You only had 28 putts. Did you feel like your putting was really a strength today?
ANNA HUANG: Honestly, not really. I think on the front nine or your -- the tournament back nine I missed a couple short birdie putts, but I was able to figure it out on the back nine and rolled some really nice putts in.
Q. I know we talked about it a little bit in your pre-tournament press conference, but just coming into an event like this, having had such a good season thus far, how do you feel like that makes you ready to go out and attack?
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, I think I'm definitely a lot more confident than I was the past few years coming into this event, and then also just all the crowds out there really helped.
Q. Do you have any of your family here this week with you supporting you?
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, it's just me and my dad. He's also on the bag this week. And then also the Team Canada coaches are here, so it's really nice to see all of them.
Q. After competing in Europe all year, how does it feel to just get to play in your home country?
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, feels really great to be home. I haven't been back in Canada since last year actually, so it feels really good.
Q. (No microphone.)
ANNA HUANG: Yes.
Q. Every hole?
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, only on fairways.
Q. That's what I meant.
ANNA HUANG: Yes.
Q. What are you most pleased about with your round today?
ANNA HUANG: I think my irons were really good so I hit a lot of good approach shots and left myself some really good birdie chances.
Q. What would it mean to you to, well, make the cut for the first time here, or do you have your sights set higher?
ANNA HUANG: I think I'm going to just try to take it one shot at a time and see how things go, and trusting my process. So, yeah, definitely making the cut would be a really big goal for me, and then hopefully some good weekend golf.
Q. I think you followed up a -- I think you followed up a bogey with a birdie, and so I guess how much of a turnaround was that?
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, I was a little bit frustrated with my bogey because I hit a really good drive and just had not a great approach there.
So, yeah, I'm really happy that I bounced back with a birdie and kept it rolling.
Q. Are you having fun?
ANNA HUANG: Yes, yeah.
Q. What's the most fun about playing here?
ANNA HUANG: I think just the crowds and the atmosphere. It's been really hype out there. The only downside is the mosquitoes, but that's it.
Q. I was going to ask you how are the bugs?
ANNA HUANG: It's pretty bad. My arms are pretty red right now.
Q. Are they?
ANNA HUANG: Under the Spartans, yeah.
Q. Do you normally wear shorts?
ANNA HUANG: No, I would wear shorts out here but because of the bugs, can't do that.
Q. And are they biting through your sleeves?
ANNA HUANG: Yes. Yeah, it's bad.
Q. They're ferocious. What's your confidence level then, being in Europe and coming over here?
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, it's pretty high right now. I think my game is in a pretty good spot, so hopefully I can just continue playing some good golf.
Q. What's been the key to the last...
ANNA HUANG: I my mentally I've grown a lot and a lot more self-belief and confidence in my game and trusting my ability able to play my best. I think that's about it.
Q. (Regarding being Canadian.) Can you speak to the evolution of the...
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, I haven't checked the leaderboard yet but it's nice to hear that. Yeah, Canadian golf has definitely grown so much in the past few years. There is two Canadians that won the U.S. Juniors back to back, which is really cool.
And, yeah, I'm just really excited for the future.
Q. What extent does Brooke play in that?
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, Brooke has been someone I looked up to the most. Ever since I started playing golf she was definitely my idol. To play alongside her now in these big events is really special.
Q. Do you feel it out there? (Indiscernible.)
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, it's -- I can definitely feel the atmosphere. It's really nice.
Q. Did you lead the tournament that you won after the first round?
ANNA HUANG: Sorry, what was that?
Q. Did you lead the tournament?
ANNA HUANG: Yeah, I went wire to wire, yeah.
