Quick Quotes
Q. What are the challenges of playing in those types of conditions when it's hot like this?
ADAM SCOTT: I think more than anything, other than the normal challenges of playing a good golf course, it's the mental errors, just from exhaustion or fatigue or whatever the heat brings to you. It's easy just to slip up and zone out for a moment, and that can be costly around a track like this.
Q. Did you have any of those today?
ADAM SCOTT: Yeah, I think I had one. I got away with it somehow off the 7th tee. It's a good time to make it because it's not that severe of a punishment if you hit it offline.
I teed it up on the right-hand side of the tee box and was never really thinking of starting it left with a fade, which is kind of the bias when you go over to the right side of the box. So I was like mid swing and not really feeling good and hitting a smother draw over the left bunker in the trees.
I thought that is just so silly to do something like that, but it can happen on a day like this.
Q. Given where you are in the points, what was the approach entering this week, the balance between wanting to do something this week versus knowing you also have next week to potentially make it to Atlanta?
ADAM SCOTT: I think my only feeling has been like make the most of this week, then it's all upside for me. There's so much to gain from a good week right now, not only for the remainder of this season. It's possible to lock up a spot in the TOUR Championship this week, but also what it does into next year, the signatures and all the majors. It sets me up for what can be a year on my terms, which will be nice.
Q. One final one real quick. You voted on Player of the Year a lot over the course of your career. Who would you lean towards right now? I know these are three big weeks, but would you lean towards any of the -- I could go through the list if that helps, but Scottie and Fitz, Cam Young, Wyndham.
ADAM SCOTT: Cam Young has two wins?
Q. Yes.
ADAM SCOTT: And THE PLAYERS is one.
Q. Wyndham has two with the U.S. Open.
ADAM SCOTT: Wyndham's got two with the U.S. Open. Who's got three, Gotterup and Fitz?
Q. And then Scottie.
ADAM SCOTT: He's won it plenty (laughter).
Look, I think there's not much separating them. Maybe it's the next three weeks that decides who it is. I can build cases for all of them if you want, but it might come down to these playoffs to see who get the vote.
Q. A pairing today and tomorrow with Foxy. Is Presidents Cup, Medinah, at all on your radar? I know you've got a lot to focus on both this week and leading into East Lake.
ADAM SCOTT: Yeah, it was fun. Got a great pairing for me. He's pumped. He's going to be on the team, so he's very excited.
We talked a fair bit about the Cup out there today, and only enthusiasm from both of us. I think, just looking at it, what the international boys have done the last month or so -- Tom Kim winning, Foxy winning, Min Woo and Si Woo continue to play great. I like the look of our team right now.
Hopefully I can play good this week or next and lock up my spot too.
