THE MODERATOR: Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the press conference of Duncan Chan and Alexis Galarneau. First of all, Alexis and Duncan, I know this is not the result you were hoping for today, but overall very good week for you here in Montreal for a first tournament together. Could you briefly share with us your experience this week together playing doubles.

DUNCAN CHAN: First of all, it was an absolute privilege to play in front of everyone in Montreal, and it was even better to play with Alexis, just to get to know him.

On the first day of the job, it was a pretty fun experience. And just every day, getting to know each other a little more, getting a little bit better on the tennis court is all I could ask for.

ALEXIS GALARNEAU: Yeah, same for me. Getting to know Duncan was amazing. Really nice guy, and I think we share a lot of the similar values.

So we had a lot of fun, and, again, being able to play four matches, or at least three, in doubles here in Montreal is a privilege for us.

THE MODERATOR: Thank you. We'll do English part with both players together and then French part with Alexis. Any English questions for both players?

Q. Hi. Congratulations on the run. I know you guys didn't practice at all, really, together in the lead-up to this, didn't even really know each other. Were you, I guess, surprised by the showing, and how you were able to perform together given the fact that you didn't have that time together?

DUNCAN CHAN: Honestly, yes. You can't really expect anything when it's a new team. Sometimes you have a honeymoon phase. Sometimes you just suck together. But luckily that wasn't the case.

I think once we hit with each other, saw each other's, kind of, skill set, we had a, kind of, a good feeling, as Alexis said, on the first day. We just went out there and did our best and had fun, and the results showed.

ALEXIS GALARNEAU: Yeah, I personally wasn't as surprised as Duncan maybe. I'd seen his singles match against Tirante, and I saw a lot of good things that can translate well into doubles playing. He was serving, volleying. He was returning quite well also.

So I had faith in us. But, yeah, again, after that it's also about the connection and the chemistry, but again, it was very natural.

Q. Duncan, I know you intend to go back to university for the next year. Is your intention after that to make the jump on the pro tour regularly? What awaits you in the next few months, and what guides your decision?

DUNCAN CHAN: Yeah, for sure, I'll be playing with the pro tour. If everything goes well and my body stays healthy, I think that's the plan, and I have nothing else for it.

Q. Would you be allowed to play the Davis Cup if a call came, and have you had any conversations with the coach regarding a potential call-up?

DUNCAN CHAN: I hope so. I don't think college would forbid me from playing Davis Cup. I would just miss a couple of classes, but haven't had any discussions about it, but hopefully we will.

Q. Just to follow up on that, do you think maybe this result this week, do you think that maybe -- you know, the doubles match is often critical, I guess, in the Davis Cup. It's normally like a swing, right, a lot of the times in the five matches. Are you positioning yourself, do you think, by your performance this week to maybe be the doubles team for Canada?

DUNCAN CHAN: Yeah. I think this week helps my case, and then we kind of just showed what we can do together and what our capabilities are on the court.

So maybe that helps me or not. I hope it does.

Q. And, Duncan, did somebody from this team today surprise you a little bit more than your past showing, because the first game there was more singles player involved. This time you had the third best team in doubles, multiple winners of majors. Did somebody strike you in that matchup?

DUNCAN CHAN: Yeah. They just didn't miss a volley. Like we had good looks on the return. Every time we got it on our strings, I think we hit a solid return, low, over net, and they just hit it off the court.

I think, from what I remember, we didn't hit a single plus-one shot off their volleys. Like it was clinical.
