U.S. WOMEN'S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

August 8, 2026

Maggie (Jiayi) Ma

Ooltewah, Tennessee, USA

The Honors Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Maggie, congratulations on such a great run this week. You just played in the quarterfinals. You are now exempt into next year's U.S. Women's Amateur. What does that mean to you?

MAGGIE MA: It means a lot because I always get really excited to play this tournament and this tournament always gets -- I get to learn a lot of experience from the older kids. They're all really great players.

So I'm always really happy to play this tournament.

Q. And you took down a lot of really tough opponents. Clairey Linn with that massive hole-out on 18. What's been your the biggest takeaway playing against some of these top players?

MAGGIE MA: Mainly just sticking to my own game and not letting anything ruin my positive attitude. Like even if I'm going downwards that I want to tell myself it's okay, I got it next hole, and then, yeah.

Q. Talk about some of the big hole-outs you had. You had two really big ones that we saw on TV.

MAGGIE MA: Yeah.

Q. What were you feeling when you kind of hit those?

MAGGIE MA: I was only happy when it went in because I did not expect it. I was just like get it close to the hole and hopefully make the next putt. Yeah, but when it went in I was really -- let me think what the word is -- I was really surprised, yeah?

Q. You're only 14 years old. Compared to a lot of the other players here, you are the youngest here. Just overall, again, what have you learned from some of the older players this week?

MAGGIE MA: I learned that you need to have a positive attitude in order to play well and to always cheer up yourself, yeah.
