Mixed Zone
R. JODAR/C. Moutet
4-6, 6-1, 6-3
Q. With such a short turnaround with Washington, how did you manage today?
RAFAEL JODAR: Yeah. I'm happy about the win. Got my first win in Montreal. It's not easy, you know, and when you play the final on Monday because of the rain and you have to play Wednesday here. But it is what it is. I accept it in the best way possible.
I tried to get used to the conditions yesterday and today during the match and in the warmup. So I am happy how I handled the pressure and everything today.
Q. Have you heard about Zverev and Felix being out?
RAFAEL JODAR: No. Well, no, I haven't had any chance to see it, yeah.
Q. Zverev and Fritz and Felix are all out. Also, with Sinner and Carlos being out and Djokovic, do you feel like this could be a good opportunity for such a young player, up-and-coming player like you, to win a first 1000?
RAFAEL JODAR: There's still a long way to go. Big words.
I'll just go over match by match. I know there's another match tomorrow against a tough player, so I just have to focus on the next match and nothing beyond that, because I think that won't help me or any other player.
Q. But do you feel like it's one of your goals this year is to get yourself one of those titles?
RAFAEL JODAR: Well, I mean, I'm going to try to win as many matches as possible, but knowing that everyone here plays very good, that you have to get ready for every match. We could see today that Moutet played a great match against a great player.
So everyone here, they are the best players in the world. So you have to face the matches with the best mentality possible and with your best level of tennis.
Q. You've played 107 matches this year. When you want to work on stuff, how do you kind of balance trying to have practice time, trying to work on your serve, trying to improve that, with the match load that you have?
RAFAEL JODAR: Yeah. I mean, when you are in tournaments, it's difficult because you are playing a lot of matches. So you don't have that match time, yeah, to practice those things.
But I think playing a lot of matches really lets you to get fitter, you know, during the matches and to get physically better. So I think that's really helping me.
And, yeah, when I get the chance to be at home for two or three weeks, one day my first season as a professional player we'll finish. I think it will be a good time to change in my life the things that I can do better, and yeah, to do it in the preseason.
Q. A couple of those things. I know it's not the end of the season, but kind of past the midway point now. What are a couple of things that come to mind for you that you really want to work on?
RAFAEL JODAR: I mean, it's difficult to say now when you are in a tournament, when you are playing a lot of matches. I think every player is different. You have to play with different strategies to beat these guys.
So, yeah, I'm just trying to play my game, and I think they'll be fine for sure in the future to improve things and to do the right ways, talking to my team, because they also have a big influence and a big part in my development because they see things that maybe on court I do not see.
Q. Tomorrow is a rematch from last week. What did you do well in Washington and what are you going to have to do well tomorrow to win?
RAFAEL JODAR: Yeah. Well, we played last week, but I'm sure it will be another different match. It will be a very, very tough match. Musetti is a very tough player, so if I want to beat him, I will have to be at my best.
