Q. So let's talk a little bit about this good round today. What went well for you?
JING YAN: Thank you. You know, I started off pretty steady. Just off with the first group it was a bit of a south wind, so first couple holes slightly into and made kind of a mistake on No. 3.
With the conditions you really want to try and capitalize on the front nine and I felt like I did a good job of that with four birdies.
I think kind of on the back nine as the wind starts to pick up a little you just have to take your losses when you make a mistake. I really tried to do that and really stayed steady and I was able to pick up a birdie.
Q. What have you learned about the links over the years playing this event?
JING YAN: I've played the links quite a few times, and I feel like it's a different challenge every time. Even if it's the same day on the same course the conditions vary so much. I personally never played in such firm conditions. I know there is a bit of a drought going on and the heat waves caused it to roll out and be really unpredictable sometimes.
Just really kind of you have to change your game plan maybe by the minute and just be confident and really try and execute and not try to doubt too much.
Q. How do you embrace being up there right now, being 2-under par and also the changing conditions for the weekend, no?
JING YAN: Yeah, you know, you want to try and build a good position, and I'm glad that I'm not in the worse off position. At the same time, nothing is for certain. The tournament still has a lot to go and many different -- it's even early on Friday.
So really just try to focus on what I'm trying to accomplish on the course and just let the other things take care of themselves.
