Q. After such an incredible showing last year in Wales, what was your goal or what were your expectations coming into this week?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, I mean, I'm just really grateful for being here. As you said, earning a spot in this event because of my top 10 last year is already a great gift.

I really like playing links golf courses and I hadn't played this one before. I heard great things, and obviously very important place for Spanish golf with Seve. I really like playing links golf. It requires a lot of creativity, strategy becomes an even more important factor.

After last year's experience I knew that I could do well here and confident about my game, so definitely a value add.

Q. Do you come in here thinking you can win?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: I think I can. If I play my best, I definitely can, yeah.

Q. What's working well for you this week?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: I think having my coach on the bag really helps. He also has a lot of links golf experience, so I think combining him and myself, I think we create a great team and gives me a lot of confidence having him on the bag.

Obviously the game has to be there. I think I'm hitting the ball well and I think I do have a good game plan author this golf course. Maybe not too aggressive off the tee and trying to get a lot of bunkers out of the way.

Q. How many bunkers have you been in the first two rounds?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: I've been in a few unfortunately, but I don't think too many, yeah.

Q. Did you do some research? You mentioned Seve. Did you look some things up?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, well, I knew the last time the AIG Women's Open was played here Georgia Hall won, and it was, I mean, a golf show. She had like three bogeys the whole week. I didn't watch anything and obviously Seve has won here two times.

I didn't know what to expect about the golf course but heard it was a very challenging venue.

Q. Had your coach played here?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yes, yes. I think he played the British Amateur like 2022 or something. Last time it was played here, yeah.
