THE MODERATOR: Lucas Herbert, welcome back once again in the Media Center. 69 for round 3; currently 20-under with a three-shot lead entering Sunday. How did you feel about today's round out there?

LUCAS HERBERT: I'm happy to get off the course. It's a bit of a grind out there. I think it's played progressively tougher each day with the wind sort of picking up and the course drying out quite a bit.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy to get off the course with a three-shot lead. Got to go get some rest.

Q. When you have players like Bryson, Tyrrell, Harold, Cam on your tail and having great rounds, is there a mind -- is there a number you've got in mind that you feel like you may need to hit tomorrow in order to lock this up?

LUCAS HERBERT: Not really. I don't really know what the weather's going to do. I would have loved to have gotten deep into the 20s today, but you get here, and you look at the wind on the range and think, anything under par is going to be a great score today.

So it's tough to call right now. You've just got to do your best job of not going backwards and letting those guys back into it. Like you said, they're great players. If you give them an opportunity, they'll jump on it.

Q. Speaking of Cam, you may be aware he finished the back nine with a 28, including eight straight birdies. Just some thoughts on your captain's performance and what you see out of him? You know him probably better than most.

LUCAS HERBERT: Yeah, it doesn't surprise me. Once that putter gets rolling -- well, once the full swing gets rolling because the putter rolls all the time. Once the full swing gets going and he gets some looks, it's incredible to watch.

As we were coming up 18, we were kind of watching on the big screen that had his highlights playing, just like looking at each other, Pughy and I, because you just know what he's like. We've played enough cash games with him on Tuesdays to see that kind of behavior, and you just know that it's never far away for him.

Q. And speaking about your caddie, yesterday we were in here, chatted about what you were going to be doing, getting ready for the round. You mentioned the carrot cutting competition. The video you posted looked like your caddie may have taken the title last night. Any plans on defending that title tonight?

LUCAS HERBERT: Yeah, it was pretty impressive carrot cutting. I don't know what we're going to do tonight. I don't know whether there's a rematch on the cards or Nick's happy to take his title and see out the week. Knowing these boys, they'll come up with something.

Q. Obviously when you won in Virginia, it was wire to wire. Do you feel like you're comfortable as a front-runner, like you can keep the pedal to the metal, so to speak, that you can keep building on it, like it's your approach when you're in the lead?

LUCAS HERBERT: Yeah, I don't think anyone is in the top five ever. You've always a bit on edge. I know I can do it. I've proven to myself. I've proven to everyone else that I can lead through all three rounds and finish the tournament off. Regardless of the result that happens tomorrow, I know I can do it. I've done it before, and that will never get taken off me.

I'd love a repeat again of Virginia tomorrow. We can draw a lot of comparisons with some of the scores and the leads at different stages, but I know I can do it tomorrow. It's just about going and executing and getting it done.

Q. And how important was that, just that last birdie? Obviously, you don't make it; essentially your lead was cut in half from the day before. Shouldn't they be mentally three shots, just seems like a much more substantial lead going into a final round, 18 holes.

LUCAS HERBERT: Yeah, I definitely remembered that 18th green in Virginia in round 3. Sergio made birdie and I made par. We both had birdie putts. I had a four-shot lead. He makes his, it goes to three, I miss mine. If it goes the other way, five is very different from three.

I just remember that I would have been -- not that I didn't try on that putt, but I felt like it was one of those ones where I had to find a way to make that putt. That was something I reflected on later.

Today I drew a bit of comparison. Bryson, he picked up a bit of energy there burning 16 and 17 and closing that gap. I wanted to feel like three shots is bigger than -- it's a lot bigger than two, mentally by more than just one stroke.

I drew off that experience, and that was kind of why I was pretty pumped when I made that putt. It felt like it was just a little momentum switch back in my direction heading into the final day tomorrow.

Q. And you talked yesterday about thinking it might be close to being a two-man race and you wanted it to be a one-horse race. Now it seems like it might be -- I don't know, what do you think about it now? Tyrrell is five shots now instead of seven. Do you feel like, especially not knowing the conditions, that you just have to be wary of somebody coming out of the pack, maybe your own captain?

LUCAS HERBERT: Yeah, Tyrrell and Cam are sitting right there, and if they're going to play like they did today, they're going to be a real chance.

So, yeah, it's definitely not a two-horse race heading into tomorrow. Bryson and I can turn it into that going into the back nine if we start off well and the others don't.

You're definitely wary of the guys in the pack because they're great players. They're playing great today. You'd expect them to play well tomorrow.

I know, if I was in that position I'd have the mentality there's nothing to lose. I know that's what they'll be thinking. I've got to be wary of that.

Q. One last question from me. Would you say that this current run of form that you have, is it as good as any form that you've had throughout your professional career, or has there been another stretch that maybe has been a little bit hotter?

LUCAS HERBERT: It's a good question. I'll say yes, I think I've converted the results better. I obviously won Virginia. Played really well last week at The Open in a major championship, which I think if I look back to like early 2025 would be my comparison. I played great there the first sort of half of the season out here on LIV, and obviously picked up a win there in Japan, but probably didn't perform in the biggest events the way I would have liked.

I didn't get a win out here on LIV. I was playing great golf, but the results have been better on this current run of form, which is something I can obviously draw off tomorrow as well because that's the sort of stuff you want to keep in the back of your head when you're playing against some of these best players in the world.

Q. How often do you think Cam will mention his eight straight birdies tonight?

LUCAS HERBERT: It's going to be one of two ways, isn't it? Nothing else we're going to hear, or we won't hear much at all.

Look, when we get home, we don't have much of a golf chat. A lot of days, guys don't really know what each other have shot, so it's like a quick, what did you have? What did you have? What did you have? All right, great. We're obviously leading in the teams as well, so we're patting each other on the back quite a lot, and then back to carrot cutting.

Q. Well played again today. Just one from me. What would you put this current form down to? What's working for you that's making you play so well?

LUCAS HERBERT: I put a lot of hard work in a long stretch of time now. I've worked really hard on my equipment as well. That would be one thing that I feel like has been a big advantage for me.

Obviously coming to LIV now, being a non-contracted player, I can go and test equipment from every manufacturer. I think within that as well I've learnt a lot about my own game as to what I need and what I want. So I think that's actually been really beneficial for me.

I think I'm in the best shape I've been. Usually at this point of the season I'm getting really tired, and mentally and physically I've held out really well. Yeah, there's a lot of -- a combination of a lot of things probably as to why I'm playing great golf. I'm going to try and ride the wave as long as I can.
