Quick Quotes

Q. How do you explain that back nine?

CAM SMITH: You can't really. I mean, just got in the groove really and hit a few nice shots and hit a few ugly ones and got away with it. A bit of luck on the side never hurts. It just kind of all happened.

Q. Have you ever had eight in a row?

CAM SMITH: No. I don't think so. I can't remember if I have.

Q. So does it feel like an out-of-body experience? Because that's what it looked like. You couldn't miss.

CAM SMITH: Yeah, I mean --

Q. The par-3s.

CAM SMITH: Yeah, the par-3s are really cool. I mean, they both looked like they were going to go in for a certain period of time. Any long putt I really holed was on 15 there.

So plenty of good looks from inside 10 feet. The putter got rolling. Yeah, just felt comfortable.

Q. Do you feel like this has been coming? Like it feels like maybe since the change that it's picked up a little bit?

CAM SMITH: Yeah, I mean, it's just getting better every day. I mean, I didn't expect it to happen overnight, and it definitely hasn't happened overnight. I've had my rounds and times during rounds where it doesn't feel good at all, but more consistently, it's feeling better.

That's what we're looking for. Hopefully sometime soon it will be four rounds for 18 holes feeling really good.

Q. I felt like there was one moment out there where they flashed on your face and then it was like you couldn't believe what was going on. I don't know, did you feel that way?

CAM SMITH: I had a laugh with Seby there on the last hole when that went in, the par putt went in.

No, it was fun honestly. It was just really fun.

Q. Was it disappointing to see where that ball ended up on the tee shot?

CAM SMITH: Yeah, I mean, I hate that tee shot. You could have placed my ball in there. I mean, it was just staring at me in the face, and it got the better of me. It is what it is.

Q. It didn't obviously start out the way you wanted to today. It's kind of -- it's just golf, how it turns around like almost -- you can't explain it really.

CAM SMITH: Yeah, I had a good chat to Tony and to Claude about just some trust stuff, you know, when it's not really going that well, I guess kind of not kicking into gear.

But I just trusted what we were doing. I wasn't trying to feel anything different. Yeah, come together on the back nine. So a good lesson for myself.

Q. Can you talk about Lucas, just what he's been doing this week? It's been really so impressive.

CAM SMITH: Yeah, he's been playing great golf all week. I think to win in Washington really helped out. Just his confidence. When you get a win, you just feel comfortable at the top, and you can see that he is.

He's just so confident at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if he hits this to two feet right now.

Q. And the Rippers, you guys had such a healthy lead going into today, and it basically vanished within the first four holes because everybody got off to such slow starts. It's amazing the way you guys can turn it on.

CAM SMITH: Yeah, I feel like when we're all -- I wouldn't say we're all streaky players, but when we get going, we get going. Yeah, it's cool to see that team leaderboard when everyone's on because it's just like one after the other.

Q. I'd be remiss if I didn't ask you about this carrot thing. Lucas brought it up.

CAM SMITH: I just saw a video on Instagram, and it's like a family or something sitting down and it looked like good fun. I thought it would be -- because everyone's staying together. I thought it would be good fun to make a competition out of is it given how competitive we all are. It's a good laugh as well.

It worked out better than I thought it was going to work out.
