TV Interviews
Q. Commiserations, Sam. Not your day. Just trying to find that birdie or couple of birdies you needed on the back nine, wasn't it?
SAM BURNS: Yeah, I was trying hard. I just couldn't find them today. Just didn't have my best stuff. Didn't have things go my way.
I hit a great tee shot on 17 to end up in an awful lie. Sometimes that's the way it goes.
Q. Like with the U.S. Open, I'm sure in time you'll need to reflect on this as a huge positive because you're getting so, so close, aren't you, to that major win?
SAM BURNS: Sure, I think the more you put yourself in this position, the better. Given the circumstances, I'm very pleased with the week. I'm looking forward to being home.
Q. Family time now.
SAM BURNS: Oh, yeah, for sure.
Q. I know this isn't the interview you want to be doing, but given you weren't even planning on playing this week, what do you take away from a third place at The Open?
SAM BURNS: Yeah, I played a lot of great golf this week. Unfortunately didn't have my best stuff today. Got off to a bad start, made a couple of mistakes early.
Ryan played amazing. He's a well-earned champion. Hat's off to him. He did what he needed to do down the stretch. Ultimately just came up a couple short today.
Q. This has been a bit of a whirlwind for you, welcoming your second child just about 11 days before the start of this tournament. What do you have to say to Caroline and the kids back home?
SAM BURNS: I love you, and I can't wait to see you.
