THE 154TH OPEN

July 18, 2026

Cameron John

Southport, Merseyside, England, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. What happened on the 18th there? I thought you got up-and-down.

CAMERON JOHN: I got up-and-down, yeah, but I had to take a penalty redrop.

Q. Sorry.

CAMERON JOHN: I didn't have like a reasonable shot through the bush to say that I could carry it far enough, which is fair enough. I was probably not seeing good enough to -- everyone's going to try their luck, but the lie was pretty bad over there.

Q. Coming back today and into the weekend for the first time and to perform like you did, you must be pretty proud?

CAMERON JOHN: Yeah, for sure. I feel like I'm playing great golf, and today I was hitting the ball probably better than the first two days. Score-wise, it felt like there was a couple that I let go and there was a couple that obviously went my way.

That's golf. It doesn't matter where you're playing, I'm always going to give it 100 percent, and hopefully that holds me in good stead come tomorrow.

Q. How does it feel just to be in the mix on a Sunday in a major?

CAMERON JOHN: It's kind of pinch me stuff, but I feel like over the past two years, especially working with Dennis, like this is kind of what we've built my game around. I feel like I'm capable of competing at the highest level, and hopefully I've shown enough of that already this week, and hopefully I can do even more tomorrow.

Q. I can't imagine, you probably have a thousand things going through your head tomorrow, but at what stage do you start thinking about qualification goals, coming back for next year, getting some momentum going into next year? Are you thinking about that at this stage?

CAMERON JOHN: I think last week probably. Obviously I had big goals for the week, and I think that's important, but at the same time, you know, like the process is pretty much go out there, execute, and hopefully it goes my way, and hopefully I can come back to St Andrews.

It's still 18 holes of golf and focus on trying to win the tournament and try to at least give myself a chance with nine holes to go.

Q. How did you find the conditions today as compared to the first two rounds?

CAMERON JOHN: It was probably a little bit less windy for the first few holes, and then it was picked up a little bit. Played in a similar direction.

The course felt like it played pretty similar. There was a couple bounces that I got that maybe were a touch softer than I was expecting. That's just the way it goes.

Yeah, I feel like the course was playing pretty much the same.

Q. Two Victorian boys, did you have a chance to have a chat last night after the round?

CAMERON JOHN: I didn't really, kind of doing our own thing. We're both obviously from Commonwealth, and I'm sure we'll have a chat in the next few days.

But for now focusing on hopefully trying to catch him, and he's hopefully going to have a good round tomorrow, and we can sort of battle it out.

Q. How are Georgia's stress levels at the moment?

CAMERON JOHN: I'm not too sure. I haven't seen her yet. She got a massage again this morning, which is good. She's just chilling out, but I think she's all right.

Q. Pin positions, how were they today? Were they tricky?

CAMERON JOHN: Yeah, definitely trickier. Every flag felt like it was on the edge of the green. Probably got a little bit more aggressive off the tee a couple times to sort of play into that.

I think, if you kind of had the same game plan as the last couple days, you might have found yourself with longer irons, mid-irons into those tucked flags. You feel like you're hitting it to 40 feet every day.

Managed that well, a couple of holes maybe I didn't, but that's all right.
