THE 154TH OPEN

July 17, 2026

Jon Rahm

Southport, Merseyside, England, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. What did the officials tell you after the round?

JON RAHM: Nothing after the round.

Q. During the round?

JON RAHM: Yeah. Well, you guys are asking. You know the answer.

Q. I don't know the answer.

JON RAHM: I got warned.

Q. Were you worried after doing it?

JON RAHM: No, I forgot. I didn't think about it until I saw him on 17, and when he was walking up to me, I knew exactly what it was for, but I didn't think about it in the moment.

Q. You're right in the hunt of this tournament, put yourself in a great position to make a charge. What's going to be required? Obviously the scoring is very good this week.

JON RAHM: Well, it all depends on, I would say, how they set up the golf course. Obviously we know the fairways are going to be firm, but they've done a good job of keeping the greens soft. I wonder if now they're going to try to firm them up and make it more difficult. It all depends on the wind, but it seems like a steady pace of 2-, 3-, 4-under a day, 3-under a day will give you a really good chance in this championship, but as far as my game is concerned, I need to keep hitting it good like I have and just hopefully make a few more putts.

Q. We know you're an emotional player. Does the code of conduct cause you a little bit of difficulty in the fact that you don't know what the outcome of your actions might be --

JON RAHM: No.

Q. Because there's no set sort of punishment?

JON RAHM: No. I didn't think about it. I don't always love the word "emotional." I'm definitely more intense and passionate than a lot of the players out here, especially at work. But I wasn't thinking about it. It's not like I'm going to -- if I try to alter who I am too much, it might cost me a little bit on the course. But certainly shouldn't have moments like the one on 15; I get it.

Q. Was the frustration just that it was a poor shot or that 15 is a bit funky or a bit of both?

JON RAHM: No, it was just a bad shot. Actually on the tee it was beautiful, left-to-right wind, perfect distance for a 6-iron for me, aim at the left bunker and just make a driving range swing that I've made hundreds of thousands of times, and it was just such a bad miss, honestly. Trying to hit a fade and draw it -- I had a few pulled missed left shots. 14, I played it almost like I did yesterday, right?

I think the unexpected, how unexpected that shot was, and shouldn't have reacted that way, but I did --

Q. Do you think you can control the outbursts the rest of the tournament?

JON RAHM: Yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, you guys are acting like it's every single hole. I get it. I had a moment --

Q. Well, it's a two-stroke penalty if it happens again. That's pretty severe.

JON RAHM: If it happens.

Q. I guess it shows how much the Claret Jug means to you, Jon.

JON RAHM: Yeah, it's just the fact that I'm looking at the last four holes thinking if I had played this hole well -- if you hit a good shot in there like Tommy did, it's not the hardest today. 15, 16, 17 can become birdie holes. Just taking away from that, again, it was just a bad reaction.

Q. You still finished well.

JON RAHM: Yeah, the last three holes I hit it beautifully. All three fairways, three chances at birdie and one for eagle. Yeah, it was a really beautiful finish.
