THE 154TH OPEN

July 17, 2026

Joe Dean

Southport, Merseyside, England, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. How do you reflect on the round?

JOE DEAN: Yeah, just sort of a bit of a last-ditch effort. The ship had sailed by that point. Yeah, not very pleased with how I've performed. A silly four-putt on 5 never helps things.

But yeah, just not enough. Felt really comfortable on Monday in the qualifier, and then for some reason just lost a bit of feel. Was just trying to make do with what I had for the last two days, which unfortunately wasn't enough.

Q. Is that one of those things, or are there things you have to go back and work on?

JOE DEAN: I can't talk for anyone else, but for myself, I get into these little pockets where I can just settle into a golf ball and know no matter what the shot requires it feels comfortable and I feel I can commit to it, whereas even more today, it just felt completely opposite. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe I can try and work it out. I think I'm possibly doing a bit too much on Tuesday-Wednesday practice-wise, but I was just trying to get those feelings back, and unfortunately not.

Q. Before I ask you about the big day, what's coming up for you?

JOE DEAN: Nothing much now for I think it's the next two and a half weeks -- no, three weeks, sorry, until the DP Tour goes to Denmark. No, I think myself and a few friends are going to play a golfing day's pro-am at Kettlestone in a couple weeks' time to hopefully shake off a few cobwebs and have a laugh, the main thing. Yeah, get through Tuesday, though, first.

Q. Have you got any last-minute wedding preparations to do?

JOE DEAN: I haven't. Emily has been panicking over some stuff she's ordered and that's trying to be delivered and not been delivered. No, I think some of us worry more than myself. Again, I'm just worried about the speech situation, but I'm sure I'll get through it.

Q. Have you written one, or are you thinking about what you'll say?

JOE DEAN: I've written one, but the problem with my head is it gets ahead of itself when reading things, so I always end up making a mess of things. If I could do an audio book version, that would be ideal. I'm sure at the end of the day close friends and family there, so I'm sure they'll let me off if I don't read it very well. So we'll see.
