THE 154TH OPEN

July 16, 2026

James Nicholas

Southport, Merseyside, England, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. How do you reflect on the round?

JAMES NICHOLAS: Disappointed, if I'm honest. Played a lot better. I'm on a run of form at the moment, playing really good and not getting much out of it, so a bit frustrated.

Didn't really take advantage of the conditions, either. Conditions are great out there, really good for scoring. Disappointing about the finish, but hopefully get some good conditions tomorrow and have a go again.

Q. In terms of the setup, how do you look at the course?

JAMES NICHOLAS: It's good. If you get it in the fairway, you've got chances to make. If you're not, it's just tough. It's just good. It's really fair. Last week we played, obviously the weather was a little bit different. It's fun. There's opportunities there if you want them, and there's a nightmare around the corner for you if you're too aggressive and take too many chances.

It's just a fair golf course. I think you'll see the scoring will be quite good this afternoon if the wind continues to lay down the way it did today.

Q. What's sort of score do you think there could be today?

JAMES NICHOLAS: I think someone could shoot 67 today. There's a score out there for them. Obviously the conditions are favourable. It's perfect. Pins are a little tucked but you can get still at them, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone shot 6-, 7-under.
