Press Conference
B. BENCIC/M. Stojsavljevic
6-2, 6-1
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. At the start of the match, you looked completely without nerves. Was that true, that you looked confident and not put out by the occasion at all?
MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC: Yeah, I mean, obviously I knew what occasion it was, but yeah, obviously started very well. Then I just kind of lost my rhythm a bit. Obviously she's a great player, as well.
Yeah, she was on it.
Q. But did the nerves come in later, then?
MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC: I wouldn't necessarily say I got nervous. I think she, I think my level dropped a bit and hers stepped up and she just, yeah, she hit me off the court.
Q. Comparing this year and last year, what was the key difference, do you think, in terms of how you felt walking out onto court?
MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC: I definitely felt better walking onto court this year, but I think it was a different caliber of an opponent, to be honest. Obviously if I sustained the level I had in the first two games and served better, probably could have been a bit different. But yeah, I couldn't, so yeah.
Q. She's obviously a top player and obviously seemed to find her stride. What's it like facing someone of that caliber when they're just in the zone?
MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC: Yeah, it's difficult. She got good rhythm by the end, even if I was, let's say I wasn't hitting my spots on my serve. But even if I was getting them in the court she would just fire it right back at my feet. Yeah, she played very well.
Q. When you're saying she hit you off the court and fired back at your feet, it's obviously frustrating. How much can you take from that going forward?
MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC: Yeah, I can take a lot from it. Obviously maybe not right now. But yeah, I'm sure I'll watch the match back today and see the stuff that I didn't do very well, and yeah, try and play better next time.
Q. Obviously it's still very raw, but playing in front of a British crowd at a home Grand Slam is an amazing experience. Are you able to kind of still enjoy it, even in kind of the midst of a difficult result and a difficult match?
MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC: Yeah, I mean, when I got the one game in the second set, it was quite nice, because the crowd loved it, as well.
But, no, they're great. Even when I was, you know, getting destroyed, they were still cheering for me. So it was very nice (smiling).
Q. I know you have had quite a lot of experience this year, but what would you say is the biggest difference coming between juniors and seniors?
MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC: I think it's just that ability to just keep going. There's no kind of letup in focus or no free points. So especially against, you know, someone who's been top 5 in the world.
She was just, yeah, she has a lot of experience. She knows exactly what she's doing. I think maybe for juniors, there is less kind of certainty in one's self as to what to do at some times. But yeah, she knew what she was doing.
Q. You did manage to raise a smile and a clenched fist when you won that game. Can you enjoy a match like that when you're 6-2, 5-0? What are your thoughts?
MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC: Yeah, obviously difficult to enjoy at that moment. Yeah, I tried to enjoy it as much as I could have. But yeah, it was difficult.
Q. What are your plans now schedule-wise? Any more grass? Also looking ahead to the U.S. swing?
MIKA STOJSAVLJEVIC: Yeah, I think I'll play juniors here, because of my tournament limit, I hardly play any matches.
Then, yeah, U.S. swing, we don't know yet. But I think I'll play Nottingham 50K after this in a couple of weeks.
