THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 29, 2026

Maja Chwalinska

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

M. SAWANGKAEW/M. Chwalinska

2-6, 7-5, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. Sorry about the loss. How disappointed are you? And can you tell us exactly what happened on the court?

MAJA CHWALINSKA: Well, I'm definitely very disappointed. You know, I was one point from winning a match. It's a Grand Slam, so of course every match is, like, very, very important.

But, yeah, I'll get through it. It's tennis, it's sport, so I will lose many more like this, and I will hopefully win some like that.

Q. The impression we had is that you injured yourself maybe on the match point, precisely?

MAJA CHWALINSKA: Well, I fell, and I felt my ankle. I wanted to continue, but I felt some -- I mean, I didn't feel comfortable moving, so I wanted to tape it, but, you know, I would lose this point anyway, like it doesn't matter if I fell or not. It definitely didn't help me later on, but it is what it is.

Q. Obviously with a fall like that, that can happen on grass. Do you think that's something you can prepare for or that's just something that will happen?

MAJA CHWALINSKA: I mean, tough to say, really. I don't have many -- I mean, I don't have a huge experience playing on grass. I know that it happens.

So I just accept it. It's sport (smiling). So what can I do?

Q. What motivates you to keep playing and not retire?

MAJA CHWALINSKA: Well, it's Wimbledon. I don't want to, you know, retire in Wimbledon. I knew that later on I got cramps everywhere, so I knew that it's not, like, anything, like, I don't take a huge risk on my health, it's gonna be okay.

But, yeah, I think I would have many regrets if I would retire, so I just wanted to continue.
