THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2026

Elina Svitolina

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

D. SNIGUR/E. Svitolina

7-5, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Could you talk us through the match this afternoon.

ELINA SVITOLINA: Yeah, was difficult one for me. Wouldn't say that I felt my 100% for some reason. On the grass, obviously you need to be really, really sharp with the reactions and your shots.

Yeah, I think I was just a little bit not there. She played well, took her opportunities, yeah, through the match.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Was it the consequence of the hip injury you got a few days ago?

ELINA SVITOLINA: Well, I mean, I wouldn't pick one thing. There were couple of reasons that affected my performance. I wouldn't say that I was at 100% as I wanted to be. Unfortunately it's like this.

As I mentioned, the grass is not very nice to you. It's very unpredictable in a way. When you're playing a player who is really comfortable on it and plays really, really good, it's just comes all together.

Yeah, it's happens like this. For me, I try to look on the positive sides. Now I have some time to rest, finally. After Roland Garros and all the busy European swing, I didn't have so much time to rest.

Finally I can go home and enjoy my time with my daughter and my husband, work on a few things and recover. This would be my priority.

Of course, be ready for long swing in the U.S. Of course try to finish the year strong.

Q. Were you always sure you were going to play this Wimbledon? Yesterday or two days ago, was it 100% sure you would play that match?

ELINA SVITOLINA: Yeah, I was trying to do my very best. Very rare that I pull out of the tournament. I always give myself a chance to step on it.

Sometimes when you're not playing your best, then not feeling good, and then the player's playing good, it's just everything comes in one. It's just very heavy and very difficult to deal with.

The grass is not giving you any easy ways to win. So yeah, I mean, just happens like this. I mean, I'm not very sad. I think just try to look in the positive side. The match is done now. I need to really move forward.

I have some time to rest now, to work, to recover. This is going to be my priority. Yeah, just I move forward. We are halfway through. I really refuse to look at this tournament as a bad one. Just want to move, and yeah, go rest and spend some time with my family.

Q. You said it was a packed swing on the clay. You know this sport inside out. We see so many injuries. Do you feel like it's becoming unsustainable to keep up with the rhythm?

ELINA SVITOLINA: Yeah, I mean, because we know how it's been before. Of course it's difficult for us to adjust. Now with so many tournaments, you are chasing all the time. If you're not playing one week, there are some players playing it, and you are chasing the ranking or the seeding or something. It's always chase for something.

When you are, like, really in the mix, sometimes it's playing in your head. So I think sometimes we just have to step back, maybe skip few tournaments and rest. I think, yeah, sometimes the structure is just forcing you to play. It's not for good reason.

So yeah, it's very sad to deal with this for many players. Of course, it's affecting the performance, affecting our physical conditions.
