THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2026

Jakub Mensik

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

J. MENSIK/T. Samuel

5-7, 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6

THE MODERATOR: Jakub, could you sum up the match for us this afternoon.

JAKUB MENSIK: Already tough question for the first one (smiling).

No, obviously I'm, first of all, super happy with the win. It was a tough one. I mean, Toby played some unbelievable tennis. He showed a great performance, and he showed that he can be on the top last week in Eastbourne. Definitely this match even showed it again.

Yeah, I've been talking about the same in Roland Garros. The Grand Slam is just all about the momentum. It's so different to play best-of-five.

Like I said, every set has their own journey, own story. It's something that I will take through the fifth set. I was happy with the way how I managed to even with that comeback in that fifth set.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Throughout your career, Miami final, you beat Djokovic, French Open recently, that match against Fonseca, then today, match tiebreak, you played well. How much do you enjoy the big occasion? How do you mentally process those big moments?

JAKUB MENSIK: Well, I would prefer to win in straight sets (smiling).

But no, of course when it comes that really it's a match that it's just about every single point. Basically every chance matters or every point matters.

Yeah, the fifth set, it was something that he started very well. I had 3-1 down. Almost I was, like, then this guy is playing really well. I came back. I knew that I will have the opportunity. I took it. Again, 5-3. I was serving for the match. Almost a lot of people would say, Okay, this is over. There we go to lucky shots from his side. Out of nowhere there is a match tiebreak.

Even after that story behind, that it had the fifth set, I was still like, All right, this is the match tiebreak, let's focus on everything what's going to happen, not focus on what happened. Just think about the present moment and be in the present moment.

In those key situations, like you said, I think it's the most important thing. Because even if it was Roland Garros, Miami like you were saying, I experienced these matches and these moments many times.

I'm happy that lately I'm able to manage it pretty well and to get the opportunity on my side. I'm happy that I'm taking from every kind of these moments and matches the experience, that I can show it in the future.

Q. After what happened in Paris, was there any moment today where were like, I cannot believe it's happening again? I'm again into a match like this. It happens to you regularly in the slams. Is there a moment where, I cannot believe? Is this pattern that explains maybe why you tend to get into those blockbusters?

JAKUB MENSIK: To be honest, I don't understand the question very well.

Q. When you were playing today, was there a moment where you were wondering, Why me again?

JAKUB MENSIK: Yeah, I mean, in Roland Garros I played two five sets. I played six matches. Like I said, in the Grand Slams are, this is something that the momentum is coming up, coming down. It's like that.

It can be three straight sets, and sometimes it can be a five-set battle. You can see it in the results in other matches. I mean, I'm not the only one who played five sets.

I mean, this is the beauty of the Grand Slams. I mean, I'm happy with the win. Of course, in three straight sets it would be better. But if it's win in five sets, I will take it.

Q. You don't get flashbacks?

JAKUB MENSIK: No. Last five-sets battle I won, so... If there was any flashback, it was only the positive ones.
