THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2026

Jan Choinski

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

J. CHOINSKI/V. Kopriva

6-3, 7-5, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Jan, a good win today. You must be very pleased with how you played. Give us your thoughts on the match.

JAN CHOINSKI: Yeah, I mean, you know, I'm really happy to be able to play in this beautiful tournament. I'm very glad, you know, that I've got massive support this week, especially my coach, Gunter Bresnik, my family, my girlfriend who is always with me. All the guys from the LTA as well.

I just wanted to put on a good show. I think I managed well, you know, serving great, and felt good out there on court. Result speaks for itself.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. It was a very good win and efficient win, as well, which must please you. What pleased you most about your performance?

JAN CHOINSKI: Yeah, I mean, you know, I'm very pleased I went into the match confident, trying to play aggressive, big tennis. I think I just managed to do it from start to end very well, very effectively. You know, my serves were really good today. Also, you know, couple of return games where I felt really good.

Yeah, in the end, the result showed it.

Q. A couple of sticky moments. It was Love-40 as you served for the second set and you came through that well. Mental side of the game is in shape as well?

JAN CHOINSKI: I mean, nothing really changed in that game, although the sun was in a very, very awkward position. It was, like, really shining straight in my eyes, and I could hardly see the court.

So whenever the rally started evolving, it was so tough, like everything was shining, reflecting, and I didn't really have a good eye on the ball, you know. That's why I think at the beginning when I had to go twice with my second serve, I missed easy shots.

But in the end, you know, I managed to serve it out well. Then, you know, I hit one unbelievable shot out of the rally that saved the game for me, and then managed to win the game and win the second set.

Q. You'd rather not play such a late start then, because the sun is obviously coming down?

JAN CHOINSKI: No, it had nothing to do with it. It was like for the majority of the match, it was fine. You know, the atmosphere was amazing on court. The crowd was great. My box was amazing, as well.

So it was just, you know, at one point there is like that tall building, and then the sun was like closing, you know, going down, and it wasn't quite down. It was just like literally shining in my eyes for one game.

In the third set at the beginning, as well. It was maybe like two or three games on that actual side, but that one game was the most important one, which I then managed to win, thankfully.

Apart from that, it was great, great conditions.

Q. You might get a bigger court next and the sun won't be such a problem. Looks like you're going to have Tiafoe maybe.

JAN CHOINSKI: Is he? I don't know what the score is.

Q. Well ahead.

JAN CHOINSKI: Well ahead? I'm looking forward to it. No matter what the court is, I'm happy to play on a bigger court, as well.

Yeah, I'll do whatever I can to be prepared and fresh for the match.

Q. What do you expect from Frances, assuming it's going to be him?

JAN CHOINSKI: Yeah, I think now must be like 12 years ago or something I played him once at the French Open juniors. Obviously since then he's come a long way, one of the best players in the world for a couple of years. Many years, actually.

Yeah, I'm just looking forward. I love playing against guys like him. Love seeing where my game's at, what I can improve, what I have improved, you know, if I can go toe to toe with them. Yeah, we'll see.

Q. Is he a player you enjoy watching as well? He's a very watchable player, isn't he?

JAN CHOINSKI: Yeah, for sure. He's very entertaining, like he, yeah, he manages to bring emotions on court, although I wouldn't, like, consider him one of my favorite players that I love watching. But for sure, yeah, he's a good player, you know, and I have watched tons of his matches, tons of the deep runs that he had, I think it was even at the US Open once where semis or something.

Yeah, so, yeah, watched a couple of matches, for sure. Yeah, I'm happy to play him if he's going to be next.

Q. What was the score when you played him 12 years ago?

JAN CHOINSKI: In that tournament, I beat him in the second round of the French Open. I think he was first seed back then. I was, I don't know, maybe like 20-something in juniors. Yeah, I managed to beat him there.

Obviously time has passed, and yeah, happy to play him again.

Q. Do you think he remembers, wants revenge?

JAN CHOINSKI: I think he remembers. I think he remembers, yeah (smiling).
