July 2, 2026
Wimbledon, London, UK
Press Conference
M. BOUZKOVA/T.C. Grant
7-5, 6-3
THE MODERATOR: Tough loss today. Do you want to just share a little bit about the match to start things off?
TYRA CATERINA GRANT: Yeah, I mean, started off well, and yeah, I think I really knew from the beginning how to play, what to do. And again, in the beginning, it was working well, but then I think the serve is really what penalized me today. Was struggling to keep my percentages up.
I think, yeah, she played her return games really smart. Even when I was up maybe 30-Love or 40-Love, she'd still make me play one or two shots.
Yeah, that put maybe more pressure on me to try to do more when I should have tried to taken my time and focus more on maybe getting my rhythm back.
Yeah, I think, at the end, I mean, I had a good tournament and a lot of good results and good things that I take back with me.
But it's tough leaving with a loss like that for me.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. I know it's not the win that you wanted, but you made it all the way to the second round, and you reflected all the negative stuff, but what are things that you are proud of from the qualifying matches till now?
TYRA CATERINA GRANT: Well, definitely playing more, a lot of good matches against higher-ranked players in a row. I mean, until now, I only played a couple 1000s here and there, but mostly I have been on the either ITF tour or maybe 125s.
Yeah, I think stepping onto these bigger stages, being able to play a high level and, you know, doing so well many matches in a row, is not easy. So I'm really glad in quallies and even the other day I could play well against good players, ranking-wise, as well.
And, yeah, also, you know, coming on grass without any preparation isn't easy, but I think I adjusted really well. Even if maybe some days before the tournament started weren't great feelings-wise, I still, you know, kept believing I could play well, and at the end I had a decent run, I think.
Q. What, from this experience, would you take that will help you for the rest of the season or even the next Grand Slam?
TYRA CATERINA GRANT: Well, I'd say definitely to, you know, to know I have the level to play at these kind of tournaments. Again, not used to playing 1000s or slams. But I think as I'm playing more tournaments and more matches, I'm starting to feel always more comfortable and always kind of feeling home, I want to say, at these kind of tournaments.
Yeah, to just keep practicing, keep doing things, and eventually they'll come together.
And hopefully I'll put together more and more performances like this, like the past couple weeks, and yeah, get more wins at this level.
