J. PAOLINI/V. Golubic
7-6, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Jasmine, great match today. How are you feeling?
JASMINE PAOLINI: Yeah, was a tricky one. The condition were windy. The sun was in the face, directly in the face.
She's a really tough opponent, no rhythm, lot of slices. So I'm happy with my performance. I think I improve my game since Eastbourne, because in Eastbourne I play Tatjana Maria, who is not the same player, but lots of slices as well. So that's good.
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Tricky conditions, not just from the outside, but also the opponent. How does that improve your game for the next match? Do you think it aids you in case you find a little bit more rhythm against Maria?
JASMINE PAOLINI: I think today I was in the position that I had to go to the net many, many times. I didn't do that with Montgomery because, okay, was another different player.
I think that it's good here to go to the net. I'm happy that today I did it more. Hopefully I can improve this in the next one, as well.
Yeah, Maria, it's completely different player from today, I think. I think today was a tricky match. I hope it will help me. But you never know in tennis.
Q. Getting through in straight sets, are you quite relieved?
JASMINE PAOLINI: Yeah, was tough. I started so-and-so. I was repeating to myself that could be normal. I had to adjust to the wind, to her. It was tough. I was like, You have the chance to break her. If you don't miss too much, if you play aggressive, you're going to have this chance. I did it. I think I played a really great tiebreak.
I started well in the second set. My focus was a little bit, I don't know where. I managed to come back also in the second set.
I think at the end of the match I can be happy with my performance.
Q. Tyra Grant, she made second round. Can you talk about her game? Are you excited about her future?
JASMINE PAOLINI: I never practice with her, but I think I will do so. I think she's a great player, very aggressive and very powerful, which is very good because tennis is going in that direction. I think she has for sure a bright future ahead of her.
I think she also has a great personality. It's nice to have a player like her. Yeah, I think about her and she make me smile because she's a bit crazy, but in a positive way. Always enjoying, like not shy at all. It's a great personality I think for our tennis.
Q. We've seen over the last couple of weeks some funny videos of you on social media having fun on court. How important is that for you to remove you from the full focus mindset?
JASMINE PAOLINI: Yeah, I think I like to do those kind of things, even if in Eastbourne was a bit embarrassing to do the T-Rex. Yeah, there are different things to do. I tried also to enjoy my life outside the court.
Sometimes you need to do other things. I think it's also important because it's not just tennis, it's also being happy outside the court, even if things doesn't go your way in the court.
