THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 5, 2026

Jannik Sinner

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

J. SINNER/S. Mochizuki

6-3, 7-6, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Jannik, nice win tonight. Could you give us your thoughts on the match this evening.

JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, tough match. Never played against him. But amazing tournament for him, from his side. Very high-level player. Very happy about today's performance.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. You said the first matches in Grand Slams are always tricky. At this stage of the tournament, what would you say is the biggest risk in the upcoming matches?

JANNIK SINNER: I don't know. There is not a rule. I think most important is to stay with a good mentality and right attitude on court.

Of course, the stages are getting bigger, more important, as we know. There is more attention on every detail. We try to prepare each match as the most important, then we see.

I'm trying to control whatever we can control, then the rest trying to solve the problem.

Q. Obviously a very unique player. What do you make of him? Have you played many players like him before?

JANNIK SINNER: Back in the days there were some players like this. It's very tricky, especially on this surface. He beat incredible players to come to this stage.

I knew it mentally, trying to understand in the beginning of the match how to play. Had chances in the second set. Couldn't use them. Third set, felt like both we started to play better.

Yeah, so I'm very happy how I handled these situations because here you can definitely be in big trouble at times. I'm happy how I handled it.

Yeah, so all things considered, I can be proud.

Q. There's a lot of talking about the heat wave coming this next week. Playing at night, it won't be an issue for you or other players?

JANNIK SINNER: It seems you know the schedule better than me. I don't know when they put me. But I'm happy either way. I feel I'm well-prepared. We did a good preparation.

Whatever happened in the past, it's gone already. Now we see if we found a solution. If not, we keep working for the next one.

But in any case, quarterfinal of a Grand Slam, the feelings are different. There is definitely more tension. In the same time, I'm very happy where I am at the moment. Then we see how it goes. Let's see.

Q. They say every day is a school day. You had to face a lot of volleying today. Was that good practice going forward? Often a lot of your matches are power. This was a different match.

JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I mean, different... It's a player I never faced, so I tried to be as aggressive as I could. Also trying to go up a bit to the net. Yesterday in the practice session, we tried to move a little bit forward, trying to see how I feel there.

All things considered, it was important do understand how he plays in the beginning. Of course, I tried to learn before, getting my details done. In the same time, whenever you play, it's a different feeling.

Felt like his backhand was really, really strong. I tried to move him a bit more to the forehand side. He's a very talented player. Also on the net you could see really good skills.

Maybe a little bit - how you say - I started off the tiebreak in the second set a little bit better than him, which I felt like that was a really important moment. If you go one set all, maybe you don't finish the match today. So I tried to close it out.

But yeah, better feelings today on court, which is most important. Of course, now let's see what's coming in the next round.

Q. I want to ask about the second set because it was kind of close, toe-to-toe set. The roof was closed. Of course, you won the tiebreaker quite easily. Can you talk a little bit about that second set and why you could dominate in the tiebreak.

JANNIK SINNER: I feel like in tiebreaks it's really important to try to start very good. He made couple of mistakes. When you go up 3-0 and you serve, it's a little bit easier to play.

But it was a very close set. I had my chances on 4-3 on a couple of break chances. Couldn't use them. Then they closed the roof. I felt like we both started to play better when the roof was closed. That's it. But it was a very close set.

I felt like I was serving well at times, especially important moments today. That helped me also being a bit more freer in the return games.

Yeah, I think that today that was the key.
