Press Conference
T. FRITZ/A. Bublik
7-6, 6-4, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Alex, if you could give us some initial thoughts on the match, please.
ALEXANDER BUBLIK: Well, I mean, it was not an easy match. I didn't have a lot left in the tank after Frances' match, but I did everything to prepare. I fought until the end.
It was a bit unlucky at the beginning when I was up a break, he broke me back. I guess that was the moment when I felt, okay, that was my fault not to leave the set up.
At the breaker he was better, he was clearly the better player today. He played very clean. He didn't give me a lot of chances.
Just another match to learn and to get back stronger at the five-setters.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.
Q. You played him a couple times in the last few weeks, so can you assess his level at this point? Could he go really deep here?
ALEXANDER BUBLIK: Well, I guess there is only one player that's above everyone here, that's Jannik, and besides that, I guess everyone is pretty much equal.
For me, he's been definitely a stronger player and a stronger surface of his is grass. He's proven that year by year. For me, he's definitely playing, maybe one of the most dangerous grass court players that I ever faced.
I think he's in a good form, so I guess it's all about the health now, the way he passed through the quarterfinal without dropping a set, or maybe dropped one.
That helps, so I think now everyone has a fair chance at the bottom draw.
Q. Anything he did different today than he did in your other match?
ALEXANDER BUBLIK: Well, we played the semifinal in Stuttgart. I mean, he played clean. As I said, he didn't give me many mistakes.
You know, it's never easy to play him, especially, as I said, on grass. He beat me three out of three on grass, because his game is really suitable for grass. It suits him well.
But also for me to face him on grass is a bit of a challenge because he keeps the ball low. I mean, sometimes even too low. He serves big. He was just the better player.
I just need to, the next time we face each other on grass, I just need to be a better version of myself to try to make him run a bit more.
