THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 6, 2026

Arthur Fery

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

A. FERY/G. Dimitrov

7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6

THE MODERATOR: A brilliant win tonight. Could you sum up your emotions for us.

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, unbelievable amount of emotion. Yes, second five-set win in a row, 7-6 in the fifth. Yeah, it's tough to digest everything.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. From the first ball you seemed to have your eye in. How nervous were you when you walked out there?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, I was nervous before the match. Yeah, obviously the occasion and playing on Centre Court against, yeah, against Grigor, who's an incredible player.

But yeah, I felt like I settled in pretty fast. Yeah, felt pretty comfortable out there. Obviously it got more and more busy as the match went on, so it didn't go from zero to a hundred straightaway, which was nice for me to settle in.

Q. On Saturday after your win, you mentioned that music is one of the ways you help get yourself in the zone. Are there any artists that helped you with this victory?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, I said before, like Rufus Du Sol, kind of house music, I listen to that quite a lot. Gets me in the zone. Yeah, I like British rappers as well. Dave, Central Cee, all the guys who are at the top of the music industry right now.

Q. You have a Dutch coach. How did the two of you get together? How much has he helped you so far?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, it's been about a year now that I'm working with Jeroen. Yeah, I was looking for a coach last year, for a second coach to add to the team. Yeah, my agent got us into contact.

We had a great fit straightaway. Yeah, great fit on and off the court. So it kind of was a good transition and good fit. So yeah, it's working well.

Obviously, yeah, these two weeks have been incredible for us. Yeah, it's been awesome to have him behind me.

Q. When in your career or your journey did you recognize yourself as mentally tough, as a fighter?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, I mean, it's always something you try to pride yourself upon, to be mentally tough. If you're not necessarily having the right attitude and you lose a match, then you feel a bit, well, ashamed, or feel like you could have done better. Yeah, it's always a work in progress. I think no one's perfect every single match.

But yeah, especially these two weeks, it's come out multiple times now. Yeah, I'm really proud of how - my behavior on court, not complaining or not having any times of anger, but more how I'm fighting back and staying in matches.

Q. You must have been maybe 11, 12 when you watched Federer in that final here. What would that kid think now he's watched you complete a five-set comeback to reach the Wimbledon quarters?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, I can't really compare both. 11-year-old kid wouldn't even think about that. When I switched the TV on in the changing rooms for the first match, the women's match, I saw Roger was in the Royal Box, I didn't know he was coming, I sent a message to my team saying, Yeah, look, Roger's in the box, I'm pretty tight.

Yeah, I mean, he was obviously in and out of the Royal Box for the whole match. But it's incredible to be in that position where one of the greatest of all times is watching you, let alone, yeah, watching me play a five-set match against Dimitrov on Centre Court Wimbledon.

Q. Can you speak a little bit about your time in America and at Stanford, how that's come into play.

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, yeah, it's been a while now, three years since I was there. Yeah, spent three years at Stanford as a transition after my career as a junior. Yeah, really loved it. Don't regret it at all.

I came out with a lot of hunger coming out of that, and I was ready to attack the pro circuit.

Learnt a lot. Made some great friends. The coaches are awesome, and obviously it was a great academic school, as well. Provided me with a backup in case tennis didn't work out.

Q. You were a hitter at the ATP World Tour Finals in 2020?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah.

Q. A couple of the guys you hit with there are still going in this draw, Novak Djokovic being one of them. What did it mean to play at that level? Is it a bit surreal to find yourself six years later still with the same people but in a different scenario?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, definitely. It was a great, great experience. I was really grateful that the ATP gave us that opportunity as the top juniors in the world to do that.

Yeah, it was a bit of a different atmosphere because it was during COVID so there were no spectators. We had to all be in the bubble in the hotel. I was spending all my two weeks around those top eight players.

Yeah, hit with Novak, hit with Tsitsipas, I believe. Yeah, loads of guys. I think Berrettini as well.

Yeah, again, I mean, I'm not really someone who thinks too much ahead. I can't really put myself in my shoes of six years ago and think back. But yeah, obviously Novak is still in the draw. There are guys who were there who are still in the draw.

Q. Talk about the match you played with Flavio in Australia, only three sets. You've already beaten him. That must give you confidence?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, definitely. Definitely. It's going to be a good match regardless. I'm expecting it to be very, very difficult and different to Australia. Completely different conditions. I'm sure he's going to be at 100% of his capacities here, which maybe he wasn't quite 100% in Australia.

Yeah, I played really well in Australia. Felt like I dominated the match. So we'll use that experience for Wednesday.

Q. At the end of the match you turned to your box and your family and friends and team up there. What did it mean to you to be able to share it with them, given you grew up so close to here?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, it was awesome. I had so many friends, so much family there, as well as all my team and people that I really trust in and enjoy spending time with.

Yeah, I mean, these matches are such roller coasters, as well. I'm always looking up. They're communicating to me. We're all in the match together.

When I get over the line, and it's the first time I'm on Centre Court, first time I'm trying to qualify for a quarterfinal in a slam, yeah, it's great to share those moments with them.

Q. It's been a big day for England, obviously the World Cup this morning and now you. Do you take any inspiration from the football at all?

ARTHUR FERY: Inspiration? I can't say I did. I was glad to wake up to good news. Yeah, I mean, same thing. I think they showed great fighting spirit. Difficult conditions playing an away match and playing in hostile conditions. I think I did that as well today, even though I had the crowd obviously completely behind me.

Yeah, they showed mental resilience, as well.

Q. How aware were you of using the crowd? Felt like in some of the key moments you riled them up.

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, yeah, especially at the end when physically I was starting to struggle, I was losing my legs a little bit, yeah. I knew that when Grigor was serving to stay in the match, it would put some pressure on him as well maybe.

But I was more doing it just for me and really getting my energy up and getting the crowd involved. Yeah, Grigor played really well, I thought, at 4-3, 5-4, 6-5 when he was serving. He was serving well. Yeah, I thought he handled those moments well.

Q. I was going to ask, what has it felt like to be part of this special day for British sport? Hopes are so high for this country.

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can only speak from my experience today. But it's good to see, yeah, British sport doing well on a global level.

What I experienced today personally, I'm really going to cherish it for the rest of my life. Who knows, maybe I will never, ever get to experience that ever again. It's the first time I'm playing on this stage. Who knows, that might be the first and last time. Hopefully not.

So yeah, I'm just trying to really soak it all in and keep the memories.
