THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 7, 2026

Jan-Lennard Struff

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

J. SINNER/J.L. Struff

7-5, 7-6, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Jan, if you could share some thoughts on today's match.

JAN-LENNARD STRUFF: Yeah, was the expected tough match for sure against Jannik. Felt I went out on the court pretty good. I started the match very well. Felt, yeah, that I had some chances.

Got his service games to the deuce two, three times. But he served pretty well and played great tennis in these situations. I got one break. Lost first set straight after.

Second set I managed to come back from a break down. Was very close. I had set point. He saved it well. In a tiebreak I lose one point. It was just, yeah, well-played from him.

I felt in the third set I had a little two, three games where I was struggling a little bit, maybe focus or energy-wise. He converted it straightaway.

At the end it's 0-3 sets. But yeah, I think I played a good match, but he was just some points better today.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Can you carry me through the mental part of the game today? You kept your focus for very long time. You performed very well on your service game as well as bouncing back.

JAN-LENNARD STRUFF: Yeah, sure, I mean, first of all, for me, I don't play that many times on these big courts, like Court No. 1. I knew I need to perform well, to play. It was great atmosphere.

I felt for sure, before the match you're a bit nervous and don't know what's going to happen. I was very happy the way I started off the match. Managed to serve well, go out there and play aggressive, offensive tennis. I managed to get in these moments where I had deuce many times.

It was tough kind of to maintain the focus because he's performing that regularly, like every match, match by match. It's so incredible.

I had the feeling if I missed one or two balls, he's straight there. That's what makes him so good. Yeah, I maybe played like two, three mistakes in the first set there. He converted the break point. It was Love-40. I should have not volleyed the one ball, just let it bounce. But it's decisions you take. Then he played a return winner.

In the second set it was also there. I felt, okay, I need to grind and need to focus. So I got a break down, but managed to get straight back, which was very important for me because matches like this, you play close set, you go 2-1 break down, then he gets on a roll, nearly kills you then in the match.

I came back. I had set point. I felt like I played freely and had the chances. I felt there were good chances to win the set. But in the tiebreak, it's just one point I lose with a backhand in the net. He was there, and didn't give me a chance to come back. That was quite tough.

In the third set, I had a bit like two, three games where Love-30. I didn't serve well in the third. My percentage was pretty low. I need a good serve against him, otherwise he's too consistent, too good from the baseline.

Yeah, I think it was 30-something in the last set, the percentage. Yeah, three games in a row, it's tough if he puts pressure on you. But then he finally broke through. I was motivated to win the set, but he was just better in the third.

Q. You became the oldest Grand Slam quarterfinalist at 36. When you achieve something like that, where do you continue to find the motivation?

JAN-LENNARD STRUFF: Yeah, obviously it's great. I said it before in the on-court interview with the Hurkacz match. At 36, it's a sign you should never give up and just try.

Yeah, all the fight and everything, it's worth it. So I'm very happy and pleased with that. I think and I hope that this result can push me a little bit more and further. It was a rough season so far, but this is a highlight of my career for sure.

I try to, yeah, take it with me to the next matches, the next weeks. I hope, yeah. I'm motivated for sure to play. I hope I can, yeah, bring the form and play good tennis this year.
