THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 10, 2026

Arthur Fery

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

A. ZVEREV/A. Fery

7-6, 6-2, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: Arthur, obviously not the result you wanted today, but you must be happy with your Wimbledon so far.

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, yeah, obviously a great fortnight for me. Yeah, obviously today was tough. Yeah, still a loss. Still hurts like a loss. But overall great two weeks.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. As competitive as you were, are you pleased with your level? Does it hurt? Do you feel like you could have given more?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, today, I mean, I felt good before the match. Yeah, for some reason didn't completely feel as comfortable as the other days. Partly because of the opponent and how he was playing.

But yeah, didn't feel as comfortable as that and at ease like the other days.

Q. Your first set was strong, and then maybe the second not as strong. Was that maybe psychological? Any weariness in there? Any explanation you can give?

ARTHUR FERY: I mean, yeah, it's just another tennis match. There's a lot of ups and downs in every tennis match. I didn't play a good tiebreak. He was always putting constant pressure. I didn't get much rhythm, just not many rallies.

Yeah, just balls coming back a little bit faster than the other days and what I'm used to. Yeah, not as sharp with my footwork and mentally. Yeah, against a player like that, it adds up pretty quick.

Q. In Melbourne when you reached the main draw there, you kind of talked about what impact that would have on your career. Now Grand Slam semifinal, world's top 40. What impact do you think this will have on your career and your life?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, it's going to change things, for sure. I'm going to be able to play tour events at least for a full year, hopefully for more. It's going to be interesting to see how, yeah, important to see how I deal with that change and everything that that brings in terms of expectations from myself, from the public, from everyone.

So yeah, already looking forward to that. It's going to be a challenge to deal with all of that, but I'm conscious of it already and that's the first step.

Q. It's happened incredibly quickly that you'll jump up to almost being seeded at Grand Slams. Do you feel that's where you belong? Do you think that will sit comfortably with you, that ranking and expectations?

ARTHUR FERY: I don't know yet. It's still very fresh. I still don't have my new ranking. Yeah, it will definitely take time to get used to, to fully digest.

But yeah, right now mentally, physically tired of the tournament. Going to make sure I take enough time to recharge the batteries, and then just go again and do my best on every match that I play. But yeah, I feel like I've showcased it here, but also in the past year since I came back from injury, I've played really high-level tennis.

Yeah, I don't know where exactly if I can put a number on my level, but I feel definitely comfortable playing slam main draws and more.

Q. Do you think you'll tap into the few people who have had a similar jump, like Emma?

ARTHUR FERY: Tap in, you mean like speak to them?

Q. Yeah, about what it's like, that huge transition.

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, the first part of it is having good people around me who are going to help me in that transition. Yeah, Emma or guys like Vacherot. He's done an incredible job. He went from 200 to winning a Masters. Suddenly it almost seemed like his base level switched overnight. Now, yeah, that seems like his everyday level.

Guys like that, try and take from what they've done and do the same.

Q. I heard you were supposed to be on holiday right now. You missed out on holiday by getting to the Wimbledon semifinals?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, I was always planning on having a holiday after Wimbledon before the U.S. Yeah, I was meant to be coming back from holiday today (smiling). That's obviously going to change.

But yeah, I definitely need some time off, process everything that's happened these past two weeks, have some time off tennis. It's been a good grass season but a long one, mentally challenging.

I'm glad that I kept going, kept going in this tournament. Every match was a new challenge. But yeah, going to take some time off now and rest before heading to the U.S.

Q. Where were you supposed to have gone?

ARTHUR FERY: Was meant to be going to Greece with some friends. We'll see if that's still in the cards.

Q. They didn't go without you?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, I think it's a leading question. But yeah, one of my friends went ahead of time hoping I would lose (laughter) so I could join him. No, he came back two days later and was supporting me.

Q. We've seen your parents there most days. Your old coach flying in from Stanford. Today thousands of people gathered that they had to stop the crowds surging up to the hill. What does it mean to have that personal and public support?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, it's been new to me for these past two weeks, having so much support, so many fans, so much support on social media and, yeah, as you say, on Henman Hill, Murray Mount, whatever you want to call it.

Yeah, it's something I have to get used to if I keep playing well, which I hope I will. Yeah, it's awesome. It's awesome. It pushes me to do better and give my best on the court.

Q. If you had a message for those fans, what would it be?

ARTHUR FERY: Thank you. Just thank you. I hope that I can transmit and, yeah, transmit emotions. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, give them the energy back that they give to me and that sport is all about people love sport because it -- I don't know how to describe it. Yeah, it gives people emotions. It's great for everyone watching. So that's what I hope I'm giving back to them.

Q. Do you have your degree from Stanford, or that's still...

ARTHUR FERY: No, I've done about three quarters of it, but I can go back and finish it whenever I want.

Q. You seem to handle everything the last two weeks in stride. What are you most proud of away from the tennis itself that you feel like you either surprised yourself or...

ARTHUR FERY: Most proud of how I handled the progression of the tournament and how I kept going in every match. Yeah, it would have been easy to just, for example, let Zizou Bergs run away with his two breaks in the fourth and, as you say, go on holiday and come back.

Yeah, just kept fighting, came back to the match court every time and gave my best. Was mentally locked in. Yeah, lacked a bit of that today. It might have been just a step too far. The opponent was a step up again.

Yeah, that's what I was most proud of, never letting go and really pushing myself to the limit.

Q. Your new ranking obviously opens up a lot of opportunities for you in various tournaments you'll be direct in. Do you have immediate ideas of where you'll go next? Are there any places that you're particularly excited to play that you haven't played yet?

ARTHUR FERY: Well, I'm going to go to the U.S. and play. I was signed up for Montreal 1000, which I don't know if I'll play yet. It's undecided. Then, yeah, planning on playing Cincinnati and Winston-Salem, my first main draw at the US Open.

With regards to tournaments I haven't played yet that I would love to play, I'm looking forward to playing in Asia. It's going to be great. I don't know which exact events I'll play. Definitely Shanghai Masters. Before that, yeah, Tokyo, Beijing.

Looking forward to playing Australia again. I love that place. Played the main draw already. But, yeah, looking forward to playing there again. Maybe Monte-Carlo, I'd say.

Q. Can you speak about Zverev and what he posed in terms of challenges for you today? What has his level been like compared to the other opponents you've faced so far?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, it was definitely a step up today. Yeah, we know how well he can play. He was hitting his forehand really well, I thought. Really going big.

That's the side that maybe not that he struggles with but maybe he has more good days but also bad days on. I felt like today he was, yeah, hitting it really big. Didn't seem to affect him when he missed. Maybe it would have been a bit different if I applied more pressure on him at really important moments. Maybe the forehand would have made a few more errors. But yeah, he played really well on that side.

Backhand's always super solid. Yeah, he's just serving big, consistently big, consistently in the 135s. It's tough to read. He doesn't really have spots that he favors.

Again, maybe his first-serve percentage would have dropped if I applied more pressure, but I thought he played really well.

Q. Have you seen the video of support you're getting from the England football team?

ARTHUR FERY: Yeah, I saw it when I came off court. It was nice to see that video from them. I'm returning the favor, wishing them luck.

Is it tonight they're playing?

Q. Tomorrow.

ARTHUR FERY: Tomorrow. So wishing them luck tomorrow.

Q. Can you just clarify what you were saying to the umpire in the first when there seemed to be an issue with technology?

ARTHUR FERY: I thought that there were a lot of lets, three in total, that she didn't call. Sascha heard one of them, as well, that he told me he heard a let.

Yeah, the umpire was trying to tell me that it was coming out of the microphone, not out of the actual hitting the net.

I mean, I'm not one to complain on court and I'm not one to hear poorly. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that she missed some net cords. That was the discussion, yeah.
