THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 11, 2026

Gordon Reid

Alfie Hewett

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

HEWETT-REID/Fernandez-Oda

2-6, 6-1, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Guys, it's your seventh Wimbledon doubles title together. How does that sound?

GORDON REID: Sounds pretty good to us, yeah. Yeah, no, it's amazing, Alfie said it in the speech, but we would have never imagined 10 years ago when we had our first final here we'd have seven titles together. So really special. One 10 years on. What an atmosphere and environment to do it in.

THE MODERATOR: Alfie, anything to add?

ALFIE HEWETT: It's the stuff of dreams really. We said a lot this week about the history of the sport. To be playing on Court No. 1 again in front of that amount of fans, you want to give 'em something to celebrate for. To be able to do that, yeah, it was a good day.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Particularly special was it because you'd lost last year, to regain the title?

GORDON REID: Yeah, this is the one we want most through the year in terms of the doubles, being the home slam obviously.

Yeah, last year was a difficult one. We were disappointed with the way it went here. We thought we might be in a little bit of trouble after the first set again today.

Yeah, I think we composed ourselves well and reset well. Yeah, I think from that point on, we controlled the match. We played to win.

Q. Alfie?

ALFIE HEWETT: Yeah, I think it makes us hungrier, that's for sure. It's not always the worst thing to lose 'cause players are getting better, players are changing their partnerships, doing what they can to put their hands on the slam trophies.

As dominant as we have been, we still want to win more and keep going for more. When a loss comes about, it still feels as heartbreaking as the first one.

We've had a new coach come in since, revamped us. We're enjoying our tennis at the moment. It's nice to put that out there on the court.

Q. You alluded to not panic after the first set. The memories of last year kicked in if you're one set down? Did you speak to each other about that?

GORDON REID: Yeah, we didn't go off on each other. We kept talking.

No, I think it was very different scenario than last year. I think those two guys today, they just played too well in the first set. We couldn't do much to affect it.

I think we were just saying to each other, if they manage to pull it off for two sets in a row, that's just fair play, it's good too. Whereas last year maybe we didn't quite impose ourselves the way we would have wanted to.

That was the main thing really, just trying to refocus, reset, stay calm at the start of the second. I think we did that really well.

Q. You obviously are incredible individual players. What do you think it is about bringing your games together that makes you so successful as a pair?

ALFIE HEWETT: I mean, there's a lot to it. You've got the tennis, the skills we both have. They complement each other really well. I think today that was on display.

Them two were really strong hitters. We were able to tap into our strengths to make it difficult for them. That was one of the conversations we were having, which is probably the next thing that's so good between us, is the understanding, the sort of mentality we have as a team to figure things out, work together.

We do a lot of preparation before events and afterward in terms of analysis. We really understand the way we want to do things.

When things don't go well, like G.R. said, it's not about panicking, it's about finding solutions. Just as people, we sort of bring the best versions of each other out.

Q. I don't think anybody looking at the scoreline would realize the incredible intensity of the second and third set. Closer than they looked on paper. Is that how it felt to you?

GORDON REID: Absolutely. I think especially third set there were a couple games where we were behind, maybe to make the scoreline a lot tighter, put a lot more pressure on.

I think we played those moments really well today in that third set, managed to keep a good, healthy gap in the score. That always helps when you're not under so much scoreboard pressure as well.

Those guys are never going to give up, never going to lie down and make it easy. I think that showed in the third set.

Yeah, I think probably the second and third were much closer than the scoreline suggests.

Q. We heard a lot of cheers from friends and family. Is that something you register during the match? How much does that support help you?

ALFIE HEWETT: Yeah, I think it's important to tap into that. It's really the only event in the year we get that amount of family and friend support.

It's amazing to look up to them and just see them on their feet backing us all the way. Even after the first set, they give you a lot of encouragement. It's another motivator when maybe you have lost the first set the way we did, to really just focus on being as present as you can to try and turn it around rather than letting all the emotion get on top of you.

Both families probably come from quite far, from either Scotland or Norfolk. We appreciate every mile they've done to come here. To be able to give them something to smile back on the way home is a nice feeling.

Q. Alfie, in terms of process now for tomorrow, what is your process, now having played Tokito today, and play him again tomorrow?

ALFIE HEWETT: Honestly right now it's just about enjoying the moment. We've done something special today as a team. I don't want to waste the opportunity, sort of wish it away. Yes, tomorrow is important. A lot of hard work has gone into today. So I will celebrate it, not with any alcohol, of course, or a late night.

But certainly we'll enjoy the moment and when I wake up tomorrow, it will be all eyes on that.

Q. Have you been watching the football? Gordon, have you been putting your fingers in your ears? Could be coming home this week.

GORDON REID: Could be. Could be, that game tonight for you guys tonight (smiling).

ALFIE HEWETT: Said through gritted teeth (smiling).

GORDON REID: No, no.

Yeah, I mean, it was amazing for Scotland to get there, to be honest. To get a win first game... After that, prefer not to talk about it. I'm sure, I don't know, maybe a bit too late for Alfie to watch tonight.

ALFIE HEWETT: First half maybe. We'll see. The coach will definitely be telling me to go to bed.

Yeah, priority obviously is to get a good amount of rest for tomorrow. I'm sure I'll watch the highlights in the morning when I wake up, and hopefully it's a good one.

Q. Would you have gone to the Scotland matches if things had been different? Had you ever thought about it?

GORDON REID: Difficult. I didn't even consider it, I guess, just because of the timing, that we've got so many tournaments in this period of the year. Maybe if we had made the final, I'd have a chance to go next weekend. Unfortunately it didn't happen this time.

Q. Arthur Fery, can I ask you about his run? You deal with pressure every year. Came out of nowhere. Have you taken inspiration from that?

ALFIE HEWETT: Yeah, he's someone that we know. Obviously he trains out at the NTC a little bit. He's highly regarded. He's an up-and-coming player.

I think he's shown what he's all about these last couple weeks. It's great to see a Brit obviously through all the way through to the semifinal. It's an inspiring story. Hopefully he can use that now to kick on in his career because he's an incredible talent. He's a good guy, as well.

I think it's only the start for him.
