Tokito Oda

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

T. ODA/A. Hewett

6-1, 6-1

THE MODERATOR: Good afternoon. Welcome to the press conference for Tokito Oda, Wimbledon champion.

How does that sound?

TOKITO ODA: Yeah. I mean, yeah, feeling, yeah, amazing right now. My trophy (smiling)...

Actually, I drop my trophy. Sorry. (Laughter.)

Sorry.

THE MODERATOR: Take your time.

Okay. We'll take some questions.

Q. Many congratulations. Did you just say you dropped your trophy?

TOKITO ODA: Yeah, I mean, I just hold here, and then it was fell down by accident, and it's looks like art right now. I'm really happy, you know, to get, you know, this kind of new trophy (smiling).

Q. Back-to-back Wimbledon titles and third overall. Does the feeling of winning get better and better every time you win here?

TOKITO ODA: Yeah, today I did pretty well. I feel like I could do anything on the court and I can put him, you know, behind the court, Alfie, because I trying to give him pressure more than, like, last time.

I was trying to, you know, make special match, you know. Not just a win. I mean, to playing my best tennis out there, and then it was my motivation, no? Like, winning, and then I just focus to give everything.

Then I think it's, yeah, I think it's doing really well. Score, as you can see score, it's 6-1, 6-1, and it takes one hour. You know, I feel like I could everything on the court.

Q. You've won or you're used to winning. How do you plan to celebrate? How do you celebrate these Grand Slam victories?

TOKITO ODA: I feel like, you know, is still I got one more thing to do, because we've got US Open in a few months later.

But now, yeah, I mean, I open Champagne, actually. I serve it with my team. Actually from this year, I can drink finally (smiling). Yeah, it was pretty great moment. My team getting bigger and bigger every year.

Yeah, I mean, I have a team in Japan still, so I will serve it with them, and then, yeah, looking forward to new my style for US Open from maybe next week.

Q. You mentioned US Open. How much does that bring into play the calendar Grand Slam now? How much is that a focus? How much desire do you have to...

TOKITO ODA: Yeah, maybe after US Open, maybe, like, next day I feel like I gotta go calendar year next year. And I feel like that time I lost in Australia, I feel like if I got Australia, I got at the same time I got career Grand Slam and calendar year.

I missed one time, so, I mean, this year, yeah, I'm reaching the calendar year. So I have one thing to do in this year, so I feel like I really have confidence for US Open and on the hard court, you know. The style and planning is going to change a little bit, so I will manage that.

Of course Alfie and Gustavo, Martin, everyone going to try to kill me, so I will trying to fix it, and yeah. Yeah. To planning new style myself and go for it.
