Q. Well-played today, not just a 66 to close out the tournament but a spot in The Open Championship, how delighted are you?

VICTOR PEREZ: Great. Obviously I knew I needed a really good day and obviously a bit of luck with the guys ahead. I got off to a good start which then puts you in a good position.

And then the end was definitely challenging. I think you tighten up a little bit. You start looking the up the board, and you're also playing -- in a way it was quite good that the leaders were so far off that that's all I had to play for really. There's no way I was going to win the tournament. When I got to 15-under, there was no way I was going to get there anyway. It was about managing the end. Seems like it's just enough.

Q. You mentioned being aware of your position. When did your focus switch from trying to win the tournament to Birkdale?

VICTOR PEREZ: I think the last four holes because there's a big grandstand on the par 3 on the right, and you can see the big screen, and I saw that they were far ahead. And then you can start like paying attention where you stand, which I think some people say they don't like it, some people like it. I like to look to just have an idea of what's required, especially in a situation like that. So yeah, it was helpful and seems like it was good enough.

Q. You missed The Open Championship last year but four starts consecutive before that. What makes The Open Championship so special?

VICTOR PEREZ: Everything about it. I think the history, just playing those massive events, and you know, the fields and just like everything around the place makes it so special.

Yeah, Birkdale is one of the top venues, as well, which I haven't done. So I'm looking forward to the challenge. It might be a quick preparation but better to have a quick one than no golf at all.
