Quick Quotes
Q. Here now with Farah O'Keefe after her final round of the Amundi Evian Championship. Another Lo Am for you. Just take us through the week. First time in Evian, correct?
FARAH O'KEEFE: Yeah, first time here. I've been on the road for probably about three and a half weeks now so it's been -- my body is kind of getting there, getting to the point where it's just I'm tired all the time. Every morning I wake up and I feel like I'm 85 years old and stiff, can't move.
Yeah, it's a really cool experience. I had no idea how beautiful this place was. It's pretty breathtaking. The food is incredible. The people are so nice. So it's been really, really cool week, one to remember, and I can't wait to come back hopefully in the future.
But I'm also so grateful. I got an exemption to play in this event so very thankful to all the people that granted me that exemption and made it possible for me to be here.
Q. And then take us through just the play on the course. What were some of the things that worked well for you? What were some of the trickier aspects?
FARAH O'KEEFE: I feel like I hit my irons really well this week. Definitely think, you know, off the tee it's pretty tight around here. It's not super long, which is kind of something that Braden and I talked about at the beginning the week. Really not a ton the drivers other than par-5s, maybe couple par-4s.
I think one of the trickiest things for me was green reading. I putted really well the first day and then I came out the second day and it's like I felt like I was rolling it the same and just nothing went in.
So definitely some kind of niche aspects or parts of these greens that are hard to kind of dial in, but I'm sure that with more experience I'll get a little bit more knowledge going forward in years to come.
But you can tell, you know, I've played with Ashleigh Buhai in one the practice rounds and she was just kind of giving me small tips here and there. Like I avoid this part. Probably want to try to stay here on this green or whatever.
That was really cool to kind of get some inside knowledge from a veteran. I feel like I played that hole pretty well, too so it was pretty good.
Q. Yeah. Some more additions to your LEAP points total. Just two or three points away from earning your card. How much of that is on your mind and how much is that a motivator for you?
FARAH O'KEEFE: Huge motivator. I had a couple putts on my last two holes today that I knew if I made those I would get an additional point, so I missed both of them low side and I was kind of bummed.
But yeah, that's something I'm chasing. In the back of my mind all the time. I think more than anything it's a motivator to go work really hard and make sure that I'm focusing on all the right things and doing everything that I can do, because the rest kind of takes care of itself. Soon as I can control everything that I can control, everything else is kind of taken care of.
Yeah, I would love for that to happen. I think it's trending in the right direction. I just have to keep doing what I have been doing. You know, May was a pretty big month for me in LEAP, May, June. So, yeah, that was really helpful, just those couple weeks there.
But, yeah, it's cool. Kiara is only a point away, so I'm excited for her. I'm sure she'll get it at some point in the summer. Her game is there. There is nothing lacking. She's a good player.
She'll probably win a major championship. I mean, she finished top 10 at the U.S. Open, so if you can do that, you can win anywhere.
And so I think I've learned a lot from her, learned a lot from all the other girls that were on that Curtis Cup team that are also in the hunt. Ma-Jo, of course.
So it's just been cool to kind of be around those players. And then out here on the professional stage we get to be around some the best professional golfers in the world. Hopefully one day that gets to be me, but we'll see.
Q. I was going to say, you mentioned both of them, Maria and Kiara. It's a three-dog race in terms of who might get it first. Maybe all three of you get in. How exciting is that, to be part of that great group of athletes?
FARAH O'KEEFE: I think -- I mean, okay, you look at our class, class of 2027, I think we might be one the strongest classes. You know, I think we definitely think we're stronger in terms of leap and LCAP and all that coming through.
We're probably the strongest class so far. Because we have me, Kiara, Ma-Jo, Martin San Pedro, just go down the list, Lauren Kim. There is incredible depth there.
And so I think it's really exciting to see that the three of us are all in it and that we could all get it kind of maybe at the same time.
You know, have some buddies out there. Be kind of nice. Travel buddies. But, yeah, it will be really cool.
And I also think that just speaks to the strength of amateur golf right now, especially on the women's side. Men's side obviously has always been incredible and I think the women's side as always been there as well.
But the current strength and the just the quality of the players that are coming through, how well-rounded their games are, they are as people, media trained, you name it.
That area of the game amateur side is really starting to flourish and it's cool to be a part of. Also really cool to see and root on my peers.
Q. Last one: What do you have coming up? What are you doing to prepare for your next appearance on the LPGA Tour?
FARAH O'KEEFE: Next I'm playing in the U.S. Amateur and then the week after that I'll be playing in Portland. So I have a couple weeks off. Again, been on the road for what feels like forever, so I'm going to try to get some rest, go home, probably not touch a club for five, six days.
Get a massage maybe, something nice. Get my nails done. And then just back to the -- I mean, back to work. That's it, right? Just keep doing what I've been doing. I think I'm going to go see my coach for a couple things that I would like it sharpen up with the driver and putter and all that kind of stuff.
But it's -- everything is there. I'm not stressing about it. I think everything is moving in the right direction and it's really cool.
