Robert MacIntyre

North Berwick, Scotland

The Renaissance Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Bob, how pleased are you with the performance?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, happy enough after the start. Wasn't happy with it, it was tough, but we always have to play the golf course. It was perfect (indiscernible) the wind just (indiscernible). So I'm trying to lay short of them, leave myself (indiscernible) and I'm trying to make pars. No, it was a bit weird for me.

Q. We're going to take you back to 15th hole, the putt. What's it like? Tell us what the energy is like, what it does for your physically when you feel this?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: No, it's brilliant. I try -- I don't show too much emotion. I try to stay as calm as I can. But it's probably -- the support I've had out there, and thankfully I've made two nice 2s coming in, the stands are filled, yeah, it's just brilliant to have the support and (indiscernible). But I was actually a little bit worried about putting it. I thought it was a fraction short, but I was glad when everyone was (indiscernible).

Q. We know you've played to win great championships, but are there any moments that make this such a special sport, especially when you come home?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, especially back here in Scotland. It's a special privilege, playing in front friends and family and everyone supporting me since pretty much 2018, or '19 when I came on the DP World Tour. It's been special, and hopefully I can go into some more special times.

Q. What is it about this place? You've played some wonderful golf here across not just one year when you won, across plenty, including this time here. What is it about this place, Bob?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: I think it just stacks up well for me. And my approach is good, is very good around here, especially the wind (indiscernible) the golf ball, left, right, right, left. I know when I can hit a (indiscernible). So I allow myself to try and move (indiscernible). I think I play a lot smarter (indiscernible) and took chances.

Q. How much do you enjoy playing in front of the home fans, and does it bring a little extra pressure as well?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: I wouldn't say pressure. It's what I love to do. I play I don't know how many events a year, probably 25 this year, and I think I might get maybe four of them when I've got proper support, and the rest of them is in the States and nobody at home, home support. You just get a few shouts.

But back to Scotland, when I holed that putt on 15 and 17, it's -- I get goose bumps. I really enjoy it. I try not to get too high, but hopefully (indiscernible) I can hole putts around there and then I can get (indiscernible).

Q. With much higher winds and rain expected for tomorrow, will that change your approach?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: No, just make me wear a jacket. There's nothing that could help me when I need to catch leaders, and I'm in a great position. But, no, I don't know how bad it's going to be. You never know around here. And sometimes it can mess with us. But, yeah, just play golf.

Q. You know what it takes to win this tournament. What will you need this weekend to put yourself in contention?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, just keep doing what I'm doing. I'm right in position, two shots back. I know it's behind Rory and a few others.

But, yeah, I think I'm in a great spot. Knowing I've won this before, there's not so much pressure. And, yeah, probably the way life is just now, there's no thought of golf after I get back to the house. And I think we're in a great spot.

Q. Bob, in the end, a really good round of golf. How patient did you have to be earlier?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, very patient. It was hard at the start. I was getting annoyed seeing them flying (indiscernible) on certain holes and knowing that I've not got the distance to do that, and having to play smart and accept 40 feet on some holes. And yeah, it was difficult to do it, but it was like (indiscernible). And did get chances, and frankly I holed a couple of nice putts.

Q. You did good on the par 3s today, didn't you. (Indiscernible) going into the back nine, at least in the red, it gave you a little bit of --

ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, I actually said I was a bit glass half empty, as I can be, just now. But when we've -- with it short of the bunkers, left myself (indiscernible) and if you want it in five downwind, and I'm like make -- back to one short of the cut line here. Rather than looking forward, I'm like I need to be more aggressive.

But, yeah, so I was kind of -- back there on nine is (indiscernible) cushion, but I thought let's go forward, we're coming on to a tough stretch on 10, 11, and tough 4s, especially the wind direction. And to make -- it was a great putt on one play on 10, and then, yeah, just took our chances when we got them coming in.

Q. In terms of the 15th, I remember, you putted that hole before, but the roars today, it was ridiculous, wasn't it?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, I remember I think I holed one on the start on the day when I won it. And yeah, you see the support, it's unbelievable. When I walk down that hole and I hear the shouts, when you hole a putt, you hear the cheers. But come Saturday and Sunday, if I hole a putt there, to do something, get right in about it. Then I'll probably go more wild.

Just now it's like enjoy it, thank you very much. I get goose bumps, and I love it when they cheer for me, but it's trying to stay as calm as I can and just make sure to move forward after that (indiscernible) 17.

Q. How difficult was it, the change, the wind direction, completely different than what it was yesterday?

ROBERT MacINTYRE: Yeah, there's some holes that I just don't like in that wind direction.
