Quick Quotes
Q. Perhaps the word patience, because you're 1-over through ten holes, and it's amazing what an eagle does to turn things around. Not an easy hole to eagle either.
MIN WOO LEE: No, it was probably one of the best shots I've hit in a while, 2-iron off the deck and hit it to maybe 14, 15 feet and holed the putt. So, yeah, definitely helps.
Yeah, played really well. Felt like -- I mean, I looked at the scores, and the scores didn't look like they were running away. So I knew it was somewhat tough. So it was nice to see that.
And, yeah, just went well on the back nine, put myself in good positions and holed some putts.
Q. The flip of the wind, along with the flip of the golf course, does that play with you mentally at all?
MIN WOO LEE: It does. I mean, I was telling my caddie Shane, I don't know if I like this wind or not. But it's challenging in a good way. I think we expect over the years the wind that we got yesterday, and then all of a sudden some of these holes become very hard because we're not used to it.
So, I mean, I didn't mind it. You know, Shane said the good players will find a way to make some birdies. So, yeah, good patience there. And, yeah, it was -- I think it was pretty good.
Q. Final thing, playing the ball down, the style of your links style, did you grow up playing that way in the Sandbelt at all in Australia? Are you familiar with that?
MIN WOO LEE: Yes and no. I mean, Perth is very windy, but not firm like this at all. And the course is getting very firm. You know, I didn't think my driver would -- I hit a mini driver on the last hole, and it got to within five yards of the hole, and you're trying to not be anywhere near that.
So, I mean, just playing around the wind in Perth, whole different -- I played, I grew up in my career. But learning to, you know, hit it up and hit it down helps when you come over to Scotland and Europe. And, yeah, I think it's just a nice thing to have.
Q. Back-to-back 66s. How pleased are you on how you batted out there today?
MIN WOO LEE: Yeah, back nine was amazing. Played really well. Was pretty patient throughout then, and then had a few chances and made sure I did well to convert them. Putted well as well, and that always helps.
But, yeah, I feel like I'm in a pretty good place, which is nice.
Q. Looking at the scorecard, the middle of the round kind of threatened to get away from you there. How much does that eagle on the difficult 7th kind of reset your focus and lead the charge?
MIN WOO LEE: It was not the 7th, but it was the other par-5. It was great. Like I was saying, it was one of the best shots I've hit. I hit driver down there and had a 2-iron in, and it was a very nice shot. Hit 2-iron to 15 feet and holed the putt.
Eagles definitely help. Feels like you've got one on the field, and feels like you could play a little bit more freer. Made a few birdies coming in, which definitely helps too.
Q. By your own high standards, maybe not the form you would have liked coming into the whole week. What have you found being back over in Europe and on links soil?
MIN WOO LEE: Yeah, I think just a bit of patience. I think we all know that you can get tough bounces over here.
But also just being kind to myself. I feel like I've been beating myself up on the course. And all these little things that -- you know, that don't go your way, felt like it got to me very easily. And grand scheme of things, it wasn't a big deal. So just realizing that and just trying to play golf and be happy.
Q. Obviously you're a winner at this event and a winner at this venue. How much going into the next two days can you draw on that experience?
MIN WOO LEE: Yeah, I mean, it always helps to come to a play you've done well in. Scotland is one of my favorite places, and seeing my name and face on some billboards is quite nice.
But it definitely helps. You know you've done it around here, and you can -- you have a bit of a memory of what you did down the stretch and played some good golf. So it always helps.
